OK. Since Ive only flown twice before I really don't know guidelines for this. I booked through Expedia and have NO idea where to find this information. I read through the guidelines and all that, but still no idea. Im taking AirTran, Northwest Airlines, and Continental Airlines.. I plan on taking a laptop (which Ive heard doesn't count as a carry on, is this true?).. and then a small luggage with my suit, hair dryer/straightener/makeup, and some extra clothes for the rest of the days, and a purse. Can I take all that or yeah, I have no clue.😕

^^thanks for that

what I mean though, is how MANY things can I carry on? I always thought you are allowed ONE carry on.. but if I have 1) Purse, 2) Laptop, 3) carry on luggage bag.. is that allowed? I know these things vary by airline.. but I dont know where to get the information.

Here's for Northwest: http://www.nwa.com/travel/luggage/carryon.html

Just do a google search for the other carriers, or go to their sites, each should have a page like the above.

Last time I flew I had a carry on luggage (one of those w/ wheels, about the biggest you can carry on) and then my backpack that had my laptop, some books/magazines, and other misc items.

So generally you can take a piece of luggage (make note of size restrictions) and then something like a laptop case, purse, or backpack.

Also keep in mind that you have to make sure you don't have any liquids that exceed what you can carry on (if you're carrying your hygiene stuff on) and to make sure you don't anything like a little knife or something you've forgot about that happens to be in your luggage or backpack.

^^thanks! I def. wont forget about the liquid restrictions haha, makes my life complicated though! lol. carrying little one ounce shampoos and stuff haha!

Most airlines will allow one pullman-type piece of luggage that's supposed to fit in overhead storage, another bag that should fit underneath the seat in front of you, and one other item such as a laptop case or handbag.

I've seen people try to bring much much more, but if you limit yourself to that, you should have no problems on any airline.

Make sure to check the restrictions on batteries. Yes, batteries. Those lithium-ion batteries that are in our laptops, PDAs, cell phones, mp3s, etc. are being regulated now, and there are restrictions on how many and where you can have them (and if they have to be removed and separated in baggies). I'd make sure to look especially hard at those considering you want to take your laptop.

Also: last time I flew I had contact lens rewetting solution in my purse. I was informed that it had to be in my baggage. So did my hand lotion. And they gave me a hard time about my mini purse sewing kit (without scissors mind you). But they let me take my 60" circular metal knitting needles no problem. Go figure.
