I'm hearing some disturbing things about Cleveland. Like it's a third world country or something. I'd go to Case if that was the only school that accepted me; but is that place as horrid as many people are saying? I don't wanna get homesick after spending 3 days in Cleveland.

I've been to Cleveland and didn't mind it at all. There are much worse places. If you REALLY wanna see 3rd-world countries with dental schools, go to Memphis or New Orleans (I'm talking prior to flood).

Do you mean the school itself of where it is located?

I live in Cleveland the past 2 years and lived in Seattle for the past 7 out of 9 years. When I came to Cleveland, I thought much of the east side of Cleveland area was pretty Ghetto. In all places there are going to be bad places. The area around Case Western is nice...it's more like old world charm. I've come to enjoy it but personally prefer modern homes, building, and such...Even though the outskirts of the downtown area are pretty Ghetto, I'd have to say that there are many places worth raising children and are safe. Those places are like Westlake, Strongsville, Woodmere, Solon, and more. The part about Cleveland I don't care too much for is the lack of diversity. It seems like the west coast is very diverse and when I came here, I was culture shocked! It seems like they are trying to do more with Cleveland. Like, they are finally undergoing much needed renovations to a widely used avenue named Carnegie Avenue which is basically one of the main linkages that connects the downtown area to University Circle area, where Case is located. Even though at first I really didn't like Cleveland, I've come to appreciate the rich history here. Don't get discouraged because not all of Cleveland is bad. I guess the only way to know is to come visit and see for yourself!

If your criteria for dental school is "a good school in a good area" then you will be really limited to a few schools! IMO it doesn't matter that much what the area right around the school is like since you'll be in classes and clinics all day. As long as the school itself has what you're looking for and there are areas around the city that would be great to live in what more could you ask for?

doesn't every state/city have a good and a bad area?

u got a 24 on the Pat and u didn't apply to UOP? they would've rolled out the red carpet for you, thats how much they like the pat from what i've heard

CASE is one of the most beautiful, artisticly designed campus out there. When i first visited Case i was amazed by how the architectural the designs of the buildings here are. The schools are also very up to date in terms of technology. the campus is good, but the city itself is not so good. cleveland, i wouldnt say is a third world country, but its definitely not that safe to walk around when the sun goes down. but this is not to say there is not good areas of cleveland. but i think most will agree, the bad parts of town outweights the good parts. as a student though, youll most likely live around the campus area, sine its good access to school. i dont have a problem with the area i live in, its within the university circle. also being situated in an area that isnt entirely too nice, has its advantages- patient pool is high. students gets more practice.

CASE is great. Campus is beautiful, school is excellent for tech. and clinical(probably the best in the country). Lots of post grad training options and low cost of living. Really, it is pretty ideal. As far as bad areas go, you can pretty much say the same thing about any other dental school in a big city (with the exception of UOP or some of the other western schools). Don't knock it till you try it.

I'm not so sure they would have liked the 16 in QR however! I've heard scores pretty much have to be all in the 20's!
