just got my interview package from case. excited 😍 it seems they are really fast, I just complete my file on July1st, and the letter was dated july 2nd 🙄

and where is everybody planning to stay during the interview? just curious

p.s. anyone notice case has TWO interviews (or they mean two interviewers)

I interviewed at Case back in late October and I stayed at a big hotel downtown. I met a girl who stayed at some dental frat/sorority house the night before and she said she didn't get any sleep because it was so noisy.
I had two separate one-on-one interviews - mine were with a clinical instructor and the dean. Both of them were really nice and the interview with the dean was mostly him talking about how competetive it was to get into ortho there. Case is a great school: the only thing that I didn't like was that some of the years are like 80% men. Now I'm not saying that I want lots of girls so that I can hook up with them - I wouldn't care if all of them were married, as long as they made of 50% of the class!! I went to an all-boy high school and I don't want that again !

I stayed at the Hilton in downtown...it was pretty cheap with the AAA discount. Only a 15 min drive from downtown.

I interviewed at Case last year and stayed in a cracked-out hotel (no kidding). I'm sure I told the story last year, try doing a search for it if you are intersted. It was quite possibly the worst night of sleep I've ever had.

Interview was exceptional, though. And yes, they do have two interviews.

You'll love it, but try to stay with a student. Give them a call and they'll give you a list of people who will be willing to have you. THAT is the best experience!

Got my interview on 8/16. Anyone else got the same?

thanks for all the reply. my boyfriend decided to go with me, so guess I have to get a hotel room 😀 and plus, I get really hyper around strangers, talk too much and literally lost my voice the next day

I called the school a few days ago and was able to talk to David, the Dean of Admission. I've never talked to a cooler person. I think he talked to me for at least an hour. He will literally tell you anything you want to know. I learned that they don't do secondary applications and that out of 2000 applications last year they only sent out 350 interview invitations, so if you got one, then they liked you a lot. Just don't blow it in the interview 😀
I'm most possitive that if you talk to him, he would be glad to help you find a student to stay with. They make sure to do two interviews just in case you don't get a mismatch in personalities with one and have that be it for you. They know you traveled a long way and want to make it a good experience for you. They make it an all day thing almost, if I remember correctly. Good luck, maybe I'll see you there, I sent my app on July 2nd. PEACE!!!!!

Every year, the dental fraternity has offered a room for interviewees to stay. The house is only about a 10 min walk to dental school and since I will be living there this year, I guess I will see some of you! The housing is pretty cheap, last year it was like $35.

Yes, Mr. David Dalsky is a very nice fellow to talk to. He is also one of the most likely interviewer you will encounter as he is the Director of Admission. The second interviewer is usually a dental professor that is free at that time.

Due read up on the recent news at Case dental school as many changes have been undergone during the past several years. Using this resource will give you a starting point on what you can ask during the interviews.

I have already asked this question in the other Case thread and no one replied 🙁 . Basically, I have been selected to the interview 😍 and already have an appointment scheduled for the first interviewing date 8/25/2004. My question is what I should expect from the interview. What qualities are they looking for? Are the students selected for the interview having all equal chances of being accepted? I am a very social person and over-confident person, and afraid this quality is gonna come out and spoil my chances of being accepted.

Case is my number one choice school!

mo007 and melonbobo what were your scores to acheive a interview at case? thanks!

I am going for an interview at Case as well (8/18) and still have to arrange accomodations. I am considering staying at the fraternity as I think it would be great to mingle with dental students and so on. My concern is getting some sleep - is it possible there? Has anyone stayed there or has had experience with it?

If your interview in on 8/25, then it's not the first interviewing date at CASE this year for sure.... because mine is on 8/16 😉 . I don't know when CASE starts interviewing for this cycle, probably in late July or early August.

Johnson22: My stats are - GPA: 3.5, Sci: 3.4 with 17-18-17 (AA-TS-PAT) DAT scores. My GPA is higher than CASE's average (3.3), but my DAT is below their average is some sections (CASE's DAT 18's and 19's).

Good Luck to all those who got interview at CASE... and make sure to share your experiences. 👍

The secretary told me they start on 8/16 and they already have that day fully scheduled - thus you have the first date.

Sweet! - I guess I have a front-row ticket. I'll keep you guys posted on my experience.

when did they receive your application? They received mine on July 20th.

CASE received mine in early June (can't remember the exact date). Scheduled for an interview mid-June.

Hey Mo007,

Not to get your hopes up too much, but I interviewed on the first day of interviews at CASE last year (8/18) and I got accepted. There were only 4 of us there that day. Rumor has it that most people interviewed in the first week or two usually get accepted unless they really hate you for some reason. Good luck, let me know if you have any questions.

dr_benj

I hope what you said is true, and I definetly hope that my group is small. I feel very confident about this interview, let me know any tips or recommendations for the day.

Thanks

Be prepared with a lot of questions about their school. Both of my interviewers asked me about 3 questions and then asked if I had any questions. If you go there unprepared you might feel stupid and your interview may only last 5 minutes. Research the school on their website and on SDN. They really like to see enthusiasm and are very proud of their curriculum.

How long does the actual interview last - or suppose to last?. Maybe your personal experience might give me a better idea.

My interviews lasted around 20-25 minutes (maybe even less?) I would say this is pretty standard of all the schools I interviewed at. CASE was very laid back and not intimidating at all. It almost felt like I had already been accepted and they just wanted to answer all my questions about their school. I heard similar responses from other people that interviewed there. It was a very easy interview. Don't worry about it too much.

When I called, the secretary told me they start interviewing on the 25th and they still have lots of slots open. As far as the rumor goes, I've seen a lot of people mention this, but most of them went to different schools. For those of you looking for a place to stay, there is a hotel about 5 minutes form Case, on Euclid Ave. I stayed there once (just needed a place quick 🙂), rooms start at $50.

Hey Mo007, did you list all the schools on the NOVA's secondary? I have like 9 schools and afraid to scare NOVA off 😀

DDS2BE

To be quite honest with you, I didn't get the chance to sit down and work on the Nova secondary yet - maybe this weekend. But if I get to the part you mentioned, I will just have to list the other 4 schools (OSU, CASE, UMich aand Tufts).

Remember, they know how many schools the average applicant applies to(around 6-7 schools), so 9 ain't that bad.

Stupid question:

How can one bomb an interview? I don't think people are stupid enough to tell something like "hey, I am going anywhere I get accepted", or "I don't know why I wanna be a dentist, my parents want me to..." or something like that

Failure to make eye contact with the interviewer, shameless bragging about yourself, failure to demonstrate professionalism (e.g. chewing gum during interview, roll your eyes, etc.). Just like any interview, whether it be for dental school or for a job, yours will help form the school's impression of you. Just think of all the ways you could botch a job interview. And yes, I have heard of applicants shamelessly stating things like "hey, I am going anywhere I get accepted." If someone does that then I guess it only helps your chances!

Thinking positive is the key... even if your parents want you to be a Dentist.

If the interviewers sense lack of enthusiasm and motivation, then the consequence is an obvious one. How you present yourself determines everything, whether you pretend or not.
