A question for those who were/are on hold at Case: Has anyone received a post-hold update from Case SOM, i.e., notification of either being put on an 'official' waitlist or being rejected?

Other than a (relatively brief) flurry of post-hold acceptances a few weeks ago (around the end of March), there doesn't seem to have been any further movement from the Hold list. I recall that Case SOM wrote that all interviewees would know their final status by April 15.

Thanks,
Abhin

I called the other day and when I asked the lady who answered if she could check my status for me, she said she was too far from her computer (she was pretty rude). I'm guessing that it's waitlist or rejection from here on out since there was a line of hold-acceptances a couple weeks ago.

Hey guys, I haven't gotten anything since I got my letter indicating my "hold" status, I hear letters are being sent out on April 14... so I suppose we'll be finding out soon, hoping for some good news...best of luck to all! 🙂

April 14th is Good Friday. Hopefully they'll go out tomorrow if they haven't gone out already.

Historically, waitlist/rejections have been received before 4/15. Should hear something by next week.

yea, i havent heard anything either. im at home for easter, so just hoping that i dont get back to school with a thin letter waiting for me. does anyone know if they call or e-mail acceptances?

Not sure, but there aren't any more acceptances going out, as far as I know. Anything that comes in the next few days will be a waitlist or rejection.

Has anyone heard from Case SOM today?

Thanks,
Abhin

No. Has anyone tried calling them?

nope, but i pretty much put them as an option out of my mind. I dont like these schools that take so long to get back to us, i dont think its very professional. Wake Forest has had me on hold since november and case since february. I understand the need for a waitlist, but having a hold list is just ridiculous. I guess they arent very good at making decisions.

bamf7:

I am a bit reluctant to call, given how busy the admissions office must be. Moreover, my reluctance was reinforced by pnasty's reception when he called (several weeks?) earlier.

Abhin

I called. The letters went out yesterday. Also, no surprise, she couldn't tell me my status over the phone. Good luck tomorrow to all the people on hold.

Surely some Ohio folks got something today. Anyone? Bueller?

Nope, I live in Cleveland... nothing in the mail today... maybe tomorrow...

I got rejected after 6 months on hold. I like having closure, but I think it was really crappy that I had to wait that long. Oh well, I still have waitlists at my two top choice schools.

bamf7: Yeah, it sucks that they let you know after such a long time. I'm sure you'll get into one of your other top choices.

For others on hold at Case: Has anyone been put on the waitlist?

Regards,
Abhin

yea i just rejected after 4 months on hold
apparently my LOI was a waste

How close are you to Cleveland?

Also, was this postmarked on the 17th like they said?

Sorry to hear that. I'll probably be joining you guys today or tomorrow.

waitlist here... anyone else?

pixie84,

What did your letter say? Specifically, what term do they use for their waitlist. Also, does your letter mention your rank on the waitlist ? (Yeah, I know very obsessive 🙂 )

Thanks,
Abhin

Add me to the Case wall of shame. 😡

Hi abhin,

My letter only says that I've been placed on the alternate list; no special category or anything, so I don't know if they do that or not. They also didn't say anything about rank or how many people are put on it, because its so unpredictable, yada yada. Pretty cryptic. Good luck to you and to those who are still waiting to hear!

waitlisted here too, and it says nothing about rankings or what not

waitlisted... case is my top choice, so now i have a reason to continue my obsession 🙂

Waitlisted in California -- I loved CASE!!!!

Waitlisted in Baltimore, not sure what I'm going to do. I liked Pitt better, but I'm waiting to see what kind of $$$$ I get from them, hmmm, guess I have a few day to make my decision.

Jim

Alternate here too.

Good luck everyone. 👍

Has anyone tried doing the math. I know they interview about 1000 and offer around 450 acceptances. I just don't know how many they have offered thus far, maybe around 200? Then from there I know it was 50% reject and 50% alternate list. 1000-200= 800, then 400 on alternate...so 250 more to go. So it seems like we have a 50% chance of getting in off the waitlist right?

Well.. Applicant #'s are up because people are applying to more schools - So clearly, some waitlisted applicants move on to other schools rather than continuing interest in Case. It's impossible to guess how many people will accept their alternate status by mailing in those post cards.

I apologize if this is a dumb question, but is waitlist and alternate the same thing? I was placed on the alternate list.

Waitlist = alternate list.
Hold is the state before they decide to either reject or place you on the alternate list, this is also sometimes called "defferred".

The only dumb question is one that goes unasked 🙂

Hey guys,

I just deferred my admission to case for one year, one more spot for the alternate list! Best of luck, hope I see you there in 2007!

How easy was it to defer for a year? I really want to go to Case but I have to finish summer school first which runs until Aug 4th and they start in mid-July. So I may have to defer, or work something our because I think they require a degree.

You are mistaken, people are accepted directly from the on hold status. I interviewed in mid-october and was placed on hold. i heard nothing, but did write 2 letters and call in twice over the next few months. they didn't begin to review on hold candidates until after the final interviews (which ended the first week in march). i received my acceptance on March 24th (dated March 22). From what they told me, about 1/4 are accepted from the on-hold status, 1/4 rejected and the other half put on the alternate/waitlist. best of luck to everyone

As far as I know, Case has a liberal deferral policy - you can defer for any reason, you just need to tell them.

was put on waitlist recently as well. I was super psyched for the possibility of going to case earlier, but now i'm becoming less and less enthusiastic. Call me stupid but part of that might be they start classes on July 10th, not a fan of that at all. Anyway, good luck to all, still don't know whether i'll stay on the alternate list or not.

i interviewed way back in september, was put on hold, and finally heard something after 8 months last week. not sure what i'm going to do yet.

July 10th? Wow, thats early. Kinda takes away a month or more if you are on a waitlist to a school you prefer.
