If i am thinking of applying to a competitive fellowship like cardiology or pulm/cc fellowship, is publishing 10 case report all shown in pubmed could be helpful?
I know people publishibg 2-3 cases but is my number distinguising as i did that during my internship. 9 of them as first author and one as second
I don t have research on pubmed although i am trying to do few things

I will try but i mean high number of case reports could be equal to research? And be effective?
I know that applicants who do 1-2 cases it doesnt make a difference
If anyone heard about previous experiences

Ah, I see. A published paper/research project will always trump a case report unless the case is groundbreaking...which 99.9% are not...interesting, yes. Exciting, maybe. But not paradigm shifting.

I would anticipate an interviewer saying "Well, you obviously enjoyed immersing yourself in your home institution's GI population. Why didn't you come up with a research idea?"

You don't have to get it published in JAMA/NEJM...come up with an interesting question and demonstrate that you have the follow-through to at least attempt investigating it.

Case reports dont trump research in no way.
research is always better.
However 10 case reports(during residency) are impressive and shows your interest in academics.
You dont have to have research published in pubmed. PDs understand that sometimes research takes time to publish (unlike case reports)....so as long as you are actively involved in some research which you can talk about during interview....that is great
