Hey guys,

Got a quick question. I'm between my MS1 and MS2 and am working with a Radiologist this summer. I've been doing some shadowing and going to conferences. But mostly I'm interested in publishing a few things (because it's interesting to put these things together and also because it's something concrete that you can accomplish). We're at an enormous (pediatric) academic medical center (a "zoo" of pathology, according to the guy I work with), so interesting cases aren't so much of a problem... but apparently it's not so easy to get case reports published these days.

So, my questions are:

1) Has anyone had good success in getting case reports published? If so, in what journals? Pediatric Radiology is probably the one we'll go with in most cases, if nothing else comes up.

2) Are there other types of articles that people have been able to put together in a week or two or three that have been fun and productive besides case reports? It seems like an experimental paper is a bit out of my reach with such a short period of time.

Not to give anyone the wrong idea, I'm mostly doing this for fun (it's been really amazing so far and I certainly wouldn't do something horrible for my last summer), but I figure I might as well produce something too.

Hope everyone's enjoying the weekend 🙂.

As far as your question #1 goes; from what I have heard/dealt with it is very hard to get case reports published in journals a PI at my institution told me it was on the order of 2-3% get published. The only way he said it might be possible is if you had 2-3 patients with the same pathology, thus making it a case series and those generally have more success.

I don't have a great answer for #2 other than I doubt it. But maybe someone will enlighten the both of us! 🙂 :luck:
