Hi, I was wondering if anyone here applied to the Six Year Dental Program at Case as a senior in high school? Im currently a senior, and am very interested in becoming a dentist and whatnot. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Well, I didn't apply to their pre-professional program, but I do know that it is VERY competitive (at least for the pre-med students). You should get high SAT(1400+) or ACT(30+) scores to be considered.

Case has a fabulous undergraduate program, but it is EXPENSIVE ($32,000+ per year). However, they do offer significant undergraduate scholarships. When I was there, a 1300 on the SATs got you a half-tuition scholarship, a 1400 was 3/4 tuition and a 1500 was full tuition.

They have both a 6-year and 8-year program -- you will only receive a BA or BS of you go with the 8-year program.

I say, if you're interested go ahead and apply! What do you have to lose? If, by the spring, you change your mind, just don't accept the offer.

well according to the SATs now you'd prob. need what..a 2200? which i think equivalent to a 1500. If you think its what you really want to do go for it. Have you had any experience in a dental office?

Hmm, I guess I better crack down on my SATs then. First round, I got 2050 (Math and Critical Reading - 1340), which is decent, but I guess not good enough for the program. Yes I have had experience in a dental office, and my brother is a dentist so I know what its all about. When he was a senior in high school, he applied to the UMKC Six Year straigh through dental program and got in, however his SAT score was only 1210 back on the 1600 scale. I would apply there also, however they stoped doing the program a few years back.

U of D Mercy has one too and they'll give you you're well earned B.S. to go along with your DDS. But look at all the schools out there do your reseach there are a few schools with these kinds of programs. If not hit up your classes in undergrad and shoot for getting in after 3 years

UOP has a 5, 6, or 7 yr program. I applied to it out of high school and got in but opted to take it easy and make sure dentistry was my thing. For UOP, the 5 yr program didn't give you a B.S. ad pretty much the only advantage of the program was they guaranteed you an interview if you had above a 3.2 (i think) and 17s in all areas of the DAT. So it DIDN"T guarantee you a spot in the dental class. You may wanna check if Case is similar, because that way, it would be mush harder to apply to other dental schools, since you don't have a bachelor's or 4 years of college under your belt. I think BU has a similar program for 7 years that yo may wanna look into as well.

Thank you for the advice guys. Its well appreciated. I looked into the UOP Program and was going to apply but decided against it because I found out that a spot in dental school was not guaranteed. I found this to be an extremely large risk, since its an out of state school, is far away, and is very expensive. Its a major pitfall that you dont receive a BS degree, because as one of you have previously mentioned, its VERY hard to get into a normal four year dental school without a BS degree. This was with the 5 year program, however, with the 6 year program, you are given a BS degree. At Case, however, your spot is guaranteed straight out of school, which serves as a very big security blanket since you know your going straigh through.

May I ask, pacbum, what were your highschool stats, since you received an interview. I want to know if my stats are near yours so I can gauge and see what my chances are.

i had about a 3.7 (unweighted...they could care less of the ap classes you take) and 31 act, which were the minimum requirements for the 5 year plan, but i actually got into the 6 year program. and this was back in '03 so i'm not sure what the stats are now. they said it was possible to move up into the 5 year program pending your performance first quarter, but most people just usually end up in the 6 year program. oh, and it wasn't an interview process...it was really easy acually, simple online application, check off a box that says you want to be considered for the predental programs, and that's it. and it was FREE. i would suggest just applying, and seeing what happens. took about an hour, and it's worth it if you know that's what you want to do. hope that helps.

Hi there.
I am in the six year dental program at Case.
Yeah..This year it was really competitive..I think it was like 4 % acceptance rate for 6 year dental and 2 % acceptance rate for..8 year med
Yes..SAT's need to be high...Personally, mine was over 2250.
Also, SAT II's have to be high too. I took Physics, Chem and Math IIC (750+ for both phy and chem and 800 for math)
I shadowed dentists, volunteered at a hospital for 4 years.
Don't be afraid of the program

I was also accepeted to U of P 6 year dental and BU 7 year?. I chose to come to Case cuz you are guaranteed a spot at Case Dental school. I was interviewed at the end of March and basically went though what dental applicants would go through except taking the DAT... But at U of P and Bu, you need to be interviewed after 2 or 3 years of undergrad which means...you can still be rejected from the dental school

Anyways! CASE 6 year dental is awesome!

My high school stat
in top 10 % of a competitive private school in Vancouver, Canada.
Student Head of music department
Jazz Band and Concert Band Trumpet Section Leader
Volunteer Coordinator (between my school and a charity-ish type of society)
Volunteered at ER for 4 years a local hospital
Ice Hockey Team Captain
Shadowed few dentists including my uncle. (this helped a lot)
Won many math and science awards...
Published Writer
and the list goes on...

During the interview, the interviewer asked me about EVERYTHING on the application form...like..what did I do as a volunteer coordinator...and so on..i think just to make sure I didn't lie..

I got half year scholarship at U of P for 6 years
and 3/4 scholarship at BU for 7 years
but.........no scholarship at Case...They considered me as an international student....but I don't regret coming to case. You are guaranteed a spot!
They told me I need to keep up a good GPA (usually ppl in this program get like 3.7's) and national average DAT score (usuall ppl get over 20)

I hope these help

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

What id the average GPA and SAT because I have a 3.4 GPA and SAT is 2340. I want to apply but I don't know what to do? I play Varsity Water Polo, in Mu Alpha Theta, Science Olympiad, Debate team, volunteer at a Hospital and Dental Organization and I live in Florida (idk if that matters). Oh I'm a rising senior
