So this whole application process is turning out to be pretty damn expensive. I'm a NYS resident and Buffalo is my top choice in dental school. Unfortunately I was put on the middle 1/3 of the waitlist. I was accepted other places and ended up sending my $1000 to Case Western.

Today I just received an acceptance from Temple. The out of state tuition is pretty high, and I heard getting PA residency isnt easy at all.

For me, Temple is closer to home, and I'd rather be in Philly than Cleveland but at the same time I already sent my deposit to Case. Should I send a deposit into Temple as well and stiill wait for UB?

Don't let $1000 stand in the way of your next 4 years in life. Temple.

It would be good to wait until the end of the 30 days for Temple to see if you got your Buffalo acceptance in the meantime, correct?

How many days do you have to make a decision? If you have 15 days or so then I would calculate Temple vs. Case in terms of tuition. If Temple is cheaper then put down the deposit at Temple. Then wait to see what Buffalo says.

At this time of the admission process, you do not have 30 days to send in the deposit. I think it is 2 weeks at max. So he needs to decide soon.

It's your personal preference, but I feel like you are already biased towards Temple if you had to pick between Temple vs. Case. Go to Temple, send in the deposit there. I personally like Temple better too.

Hope for the best waitlist moving up @ Buffalo.

Fortunately I have until February 23 to send my deposit into Temple. The tuitions are almost the same [around ~57Kish]

Wait until ~mid Feb. see if you move off waitlist for Buffalo.

I guess it really comes down to you. Take out Buffalo out of the equation for a while. What would you decide between Temple vs. Case?

If they have not cashed your check yet at Case and you want to put down the deposit at Temple, call your bank and tell them to stop payment on the check. If the deposit money is the issue.

That's extremely brilliant...I never thought of that lol

I was all depressed about paying out all this money over Xmas, went and visited my dentist and he said he did it back in the day when he had laid down deposits to specialize and decided he didnt want to do it. My bank charged me a $30 fee to do it but it was Totally worth it. It helps when the D schools drag their feet to cash those "non-refundable" deposits as well.

Seems like kind of a jerk move to stop payment on a cheque you've already sent out, however. They explicitly tell you these payments are non-refundable; not sure if it's kicking yourself in the rear for further possible relationships with the school you're turning down so unscrupulously.

I hardly would call stopping order on a check unscrupulous. Giving money to a school you won't even attend and having them keep it is unscrupulous.

Whether you can stop the $1000 payment or not, put the deposit down at Temple at the last possible minute you can. It is the better school for you I believe from your post. Wait for the best from Buffalo. In the end it may suck that you had to put down three deposits. The end would justify the means.

Are they interviewing only for waitlist now? I have an interview next Friday.

is case more prestigious than temple?

What do you consider to be as prestigious?

-Can be classified in a million ways, date of establishment, greatest number of nobel prize winners, research money?

I dont think many people factor in the more important factors education, clinical experience and what not when considering prestige for dental schools.

The real question should be which school will give me the best opportunity and clinical experience to become an excellent GP (or specialist if your thinking that far ahead) for the lowest price?
