Hey everyone,

It's exciting that the Match is coming up real soon. I hope we all do well. :luck:

I'm having a bit of trouble deciding between Case Western and UF-Gainesville. I wanted to get some insights. I think they're both great programs and will provide me with what I am looking for. The big difference is Cleveland appears to be a more fun, diverse city compared to Gainesville and with more research opportunity for myself and my significant other, who has a PhD in the sciences. My goal is to go to a clinically-oriented program with supportive faculty and learn the necessary skills, so that I can go into a match into a fellowship. I plan to work with the underserved community.

Case Western
- Enthusiastic, transparent, well-respected Chairman.
- Positive vibe from my interaction with the faculty
- Residents are happy
- Beautiful VA with planned new clinic in the University Hospital
- Cons: New Chairman coming in, so will the kinks be ironed out by the time I start? I don't know much about Cleveland other than it gets really cold...a lot!

UF
- Exceptional surgical numbers with great fellowship placements
- Strong in Cornea
- Residents are among the happiest and down-to-earth that I've seen
- VA is beautiful, across the street, with great faculty supervision when needed, autonomy when you want it
- Cons: Not sure who the new Chairman will be; the interim-Chair is incredible and is a great advocate for residents. I'm concerned that everything in Gainesville revolves around UF, which can be both a positive and a negative. Gainesville is a bit small?

Appreciate your thoughts! thanks.

UF over case western IMO. Florida is nice. No brainer over Cleveland. They get a ton of snow and long long winters. If you really think the training is solid at either I would make the location the deciding factor. You want to train somewhere where you wake up everyday wanting to go to work. Cold winters really suck
