Ah... Just spent this Sat at Case and its university circle. Broke my heart... it was my second choice .. now I will choose Arizona over this school. Nice landscape though. Why don't they use more of their land and build more parking lot ? Their facilities is ok, not that impressive at all. Well, Tower city distric and warehouse district are cool. My interview will be on Monday, but I'm losing my faith. Anybody is feeling same as mine ?😕

Larry,

Case was my first interview last year, and I was basically told on the spot that I was accepted.

They really showed me a good time. I even went out to dinner with my interviewer, after assisting in the clinics for 4 hours.

They have a solid program, but in the end I didn't feel comfortable taking my family with me to Cleveland.

In regards to that aspect, I'm sure you can see why I chose Arizona over Case. For me, living conditions, environment, and newness of facilities were all major interests.

P.S. Case has a new sim-lab, check it out.

Gavin,

I remember you were saying that some of Arizona's facilites were still under construction, or are about to go under construction. Can you tell me exactly which facilities these are, and when they will be completed?

Thanks

I sure can. Good question.

The only thing that is NOT completed is are the clinical facilities.

They will be housed in a 200,000 sq. foot building that will be across the street from our current building. The dental classrooms will remain in the current building, or at least that it the official word right now.

That means lecturing will take place in one building, while treating patients (clinics) will happen in a distinct building.

The clinic building WILL also include a large ampitheater which will be used for instruction of the D3 and D4 students, as well as continuing education courses.

The Dean is planning on Arizona offering a AEGD program as well as a pediatric residency, so I'm sure their will also be some other classrooms in the clinical building.

The building will be completed in January of 2005, and groundbreaking is supposedly going to start sometime before this year's end.

So, to sum: Arizona will have two buildings. One will house the sim-lab and learning facilities for the sciences, the other will house the clinics and other classrooms for advanced learning/CE.

Note: this is actually pretty cool, because the D1 and D2 students can still wear whatever they want to class because they won't be having classes in the clinic building.

I'll expound a bit more on the clinics:

It will be an 88 chair facility, with chairs grouped in "practice areas". A practice area will be 5-6 operatories, with an attending's desk in the middle.

Those assigned to a certain practice area will function as if they were in a group practice, and the attending will function as the attending doctor (handling questions, overseeing work, making final judgement calls if needed, etc.).

The clinics will also have a group of chairs (5-6) set aside for oral surgery cases. There will also be a practice area for pediatric dentistry (which will work in conjunction with the pediatric specialty program when it gets up and running).

I have not seen Arizona, but having recently interviewed at Case, I can vouch for the friendliness of the staff, faculty, and students. The whole atmosphere felt very laid back, which was a marked difference from UConn (my first interview). The price tag for CWRU is not for the faint of heart or wallet, though. 🙁

Overall, I enjoyed my Case visit, but your milage may vary.

hm.. Just got back from my interview today. DentSim lab is cool. Nice staffs, students and faculties. One interviewer said he would give me a high mark on my application ~ acceptance (!?!?) Other expressed his hope to see me next August. 😕 Man,, Cleveland Brown beat Oakland Rider real good yesterday.

Larry,

Isnt it funny how one's favorite sports teams change as soon as you are about to move to a new city?? I suddenly find myself cheering for the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and Celtics.

Red Sox 3
Yankees 2

Woo hoo!

well luckily, my nephew and his fellow medical students were able to find tickets for the game ($150/each, not bad on the game day) . I felt like home again. I lost my voice on the interview day...hehehe

Does anyone know when Case starts sending out letters of acceptance? :scared:
I had my interview at CWRU on the second interviewing week. Does it mean I will find out sometime at the beginning of December if I got in or not?

I was also invited to Boston U. on December and really don't wanna waste any more money, since Case is my number one choice.

DDS2Be,
By agreement, dental schools can't send you an acceptance before Dec.1....hang tight I'm sure you'll get in! I do believe they can send you a denial before 12/1, but if you are worried about it, I'd try to talk to someone in admissions, let them know how much you dig Case and that you wouldn't want to waste your time interviewing anywhere else if you have a chance to go there. It sounds like they give people hints~

As I recall, admission director that interviewed me said, at the end of the interview, that he recommends taking one sci. upper class at college so the dental curriculum won't be harsh on me right at start since I was out of college for one year.

Do you think it was my acceptance clue? I realy don't feel like calling and bugging them again.

It might be, but just in case, do very well on other interviews so that you are not banking everything on Case.

Thanks The Musketeer. I hope to see you next year 🙂

One interviewer at CASE told me that they would like to see me at their school next year. The other interviewer sounded he was so interested in my background, and explained how decisions are made after the interview. A very simple way of saying "you will hear from us". I couldn't disagree with the interviewers, since getting an interview at case is about 10% chance (from their application pool), and that itself speaks for itself on what the chances are for an acceptance.

To determine whether you get it or not, some people believe asking their chances during the interview is a reasonable move. But in CASE's case 🙂, a conclusion takes more than person, infact there is a board for adcoms who say the final word, even though interviewers present your file with a green light.

Dec 1st is getting closer, I say put your mind on to other things, you will be surprised how fast the time flies.

Good Luck

Mo007, did you hear anything about OSU yet?

I have a personal question for you: whats up with this BMW logo? 😀 You can tell me, I promise I won't tell anyone 👍 ...... In any case, my next car will be a brand spanky new BMW M5!!! mmm... can't wait for that new-car smell :luck:

man, i didn't get any of these hints anyone is talking about at my interview... one interviewer said something like 'you will probably get in anywhere you apply, so your biggest problem now is where to go', but they never said anything directly suggesting of their school, like 'hope to see you next fall' or anything like they did for all of you 😎

I asked the interviewer at the end of our talk what my chance is at Case
and he explained the whole process of admission (from a to z) and told me that he cannot say right now cuz he is not the one who is deciding.

also, the director of Admission, Mr. dasky or sth (sorry for misspelling) told us for an hour that the admission committee will decide based on formal reports prepared by interviewers. These reports will be kept somewhere until mid november, the decision will be made when committee finishes reviewing them.

so I guess.... if the interviewer was saying "would like to see you next year" or "you are accepted" things like that, it's because the majority of interviewees who are invited during Fall will be accepted anyways. According to the director of admissions, they invite around 160 (~ 80 ?) until Dec 1, and accept around 140 for 70 seats (since people will be accepted to other schools too). After that, interviews (~120 ~40 ppl) will be held for alternative positions. (Total =~300 interviewees for this cycle) I think Case's initial screening was tough enough so that if already interviewed, it would be safe to assume that you are 80% accepted.

I've had mine in mid Dec and during my interviews, none of the interviewers gave me any hints that I was accepted, but sure enough, in a week, there was the acceptance letter!

So don't worry, just focus on the rest of your interviews and come December, you will find out!

I have had people stalking me because of this Beemer logo.... 🙂.

I use to have 318ti (custom made), until one day.... I lost control on an icy road and the whole car was totalled, I could have lost my life in that deadly accident. So, I switched to a less complicated car now... my lil FORD ZX2... not bad until I get over with grad school one day.

So... talking about the new M5.... baaaaby!, that's on top of my list of "Things to do when you are DDS". Well, what can I say?... The Return of the King! With 507 HP, a de-restricted top-speed of 210 mph (who wants to race me? 😀), 8250 rpm V10 engine, 7-speed sequential gearbox, active suspension, M-specific HUD, different DSC-settings for active drivers and doing the N?rburgring in 8 minutes blank BMW M will not have trouble filling in the orderbooks. I didn't like the new 5 series look in general, but the M5 is a demon in disguise.

So... you better leave this issue until you are close to finishing dental school. 👍

By the way... I haven't heard from OSU. They have been waiting for corrections to be made on my application from AADSAS, which they will get this week... maybe I will hear from them next week. How about you? any interview from OSU?

the new m5 looks really ugly, i'd rather get a e55 amg or jaguar s type r

Nope, nothing from OSU, only that email that they are still processing the applications. I have a friend of mine with M5. He got it in 2000. I think that was the year when M5 officially came in the US market. That dude had to go to Cincinnati due to the fact that it was not available in Cleveland. I think there are only four M5 in Cleveland right now 🙂
I'm thinking about gettin' a red one? Which one do U want? Alright, won't bring this sencitive topic again for the next 5 years or so...

My neighbor, back in Boston, had a Burgundi M5... don't know what year it was. But 2 of my other friends, one anaesthesiologist, the other - a spoiled kid from far east asia had M3's... limited editions 😀. Still think the M5 exceeds anything a serious driver could ask for.

There is a local dealer in Columbus Ohio, I know one of the service guys over there... they can let me test-drive one when it comes out. I hope I have the guts to hit the gas all the way on the I-71 (without getting into trouble).

Did you complete the secondary for OSU? if so, when?

Thanks

I completed mine on 8/15/04.

Before each upcoming interview, I prepare myself as if that dental school would have been my first choice dental school. But in the back of my heart, Case is still a school of my dream 😀

Thanks The Musketeer for hanging with us 👍

Hey no problem, and if you have any specific questions about Case, I will be more than happy to answer them.

DDS2BE, I am just wondering why Case is ur dream school? It is pretty expensive and located in a ghetto area.

Because it's in Cleveland KOBE.....🙂
Really, it is a great school with a lot of new technology!

I've visited lots of d-schools. Case is the most technologically advanced school I've seen yet. U R completely correct about location, it is in ghetto, but only on the opposite side of Euclid. Case is very strong from a clinical experience, which by the way, starts at the very first year.

One thing I don?t like about Case is the amount of snobs in that school. Please don?t get offended if you are from that school. I just came back from SUNY@Buffalo and noticed most of the students are down-to-earth people. They were, in fact, very helpful and didn?t give that strange look 🙂
Again, I am not judging anyone, I am just stating my experience.

Saw on the news yesterday that Cleveland is the poorist big city in the US...

With all my love and respect to Clevelanders, as being a Clevelander myself, I would agree with you guys... that Cleveland isn't the best place to live in.

no, wait for the 997 turbo...porsche for you non car enthusiasts

True. I was just sticking to the BMW theme. But, yes, the porsche will make me cry myself to sleep.

Good news ! We would get more patients easily in Cleveland.

By the way, Case's undergrad was ranked #35 in the poorest city in the nation.

I know they don't rank the dental schools, but the Case Western Medical school is ranked #12 in the nation which is pretty darn good. The school is very well respected in the medical community. I'm sure that some of that goodness rubs off onto the dental school.

Price difference between Case and Buffalo is $90,000. Do you still think its worth paying so much more money. Buffalo doesn't have a dental sim. lab, but for this much money, I can buy that simulator and get to keep it, and still have $20,000 left 🙂

Probably not.

Finally got accepted to my #1 on the list school, Case.... and looking forward on meeting people like me and of course those Case students as well. How about a "quiet" bar on west 6th.... fusion maybe 🙂

I got in.

I just called Mr.Dasky, my favorite director of admssions, and found out that
THEY are pleased to see the committee offered me an acceptance.
All I said was "Great...... yeah....... yes.... thanks....... bye...."

Anyways, my fist interview was @ Case and so is acceptance.

still waiting for more to come..

Congratulations on getting into the school of your dream! Right now we (1st yrs) are out an about at various elementary schools doing sealants for 2nd and 6th graders. It is very fun, especially with the 2nd graders since they are always very happy!

If anyone have any questions about Case, feel free to ask me and I will try my best to answer them!

Congrats to ALL on your acceptance!!

I got in too, will not rush into submitting the deposit until I hear from all schools.

Case is a great school.

When is the best time to start worrying about financial aid and all other paper work?

Congratulation all ! 👍 👍 👍

Hope to see you all soon ! 🙂 🙂

Around February time frame when you have decided on your final school, or 2 schools if you can't decide.

I just called Case and was told I'm in! Case is certainly at the top of my list, so I guess I might end up calling Cleveland home for the next four years. Congratulations to everyone else! 😀

Did anyone get a physical confirmation of acceptance from Case? I still don't believe I'm 😀 I need to see the letter :meanie:
