I keep on seeing CASE all over the forum and I went to visit the school's website and I can't seem to understand why it's so popular.

Can someone please tell me what's so special about CASE? IS the education exceptional there? IS the lab top-notched? IS it easier to get in?

I've never even heard to CASE until I came on this site.

May be I should apply there as well.

it is a dental school. if u get in, you can be a dentist once u graduate. I think this is enough to make Case so special.

We often want what we cant have. Since case is unofficially full...suddenly we all want it.

does anybody know how many people actually get accepted and what percentage of them actually end up going there?

can somebody confirm that they accept almost 130 for 80 seats?

ah.
SO it's similar to Temple and NYU, both of which are schools I'm very interested in!

i heard it was like 200 for 70 seats.

You're hearing about it a lot now because Case interviews really early and fill up their seats quite quickly.

Case is a kick ass school... the faciliites have new technology everywhere. Furthermore, they've recently developed a new program and a new way of teaching that's only shared by 4 other schools including Harvard and USC. Its unique in that in trains you to be a private dental practice owner from day 1 -- you get ur own simulated "office" with your own receptionist who schedules all ur patients. THis all starts the first year. Plus, school is not 8-5. You get get 3 half days to do "independent research"

THat is why Case is so amazing.

wow. Now I really really want to apply there.

SDN is a real treasure. Wish I had known about it sooner.

Case Western has a clinical-based dental school. I don't know what's so special about that dental school, except for the fact that it's a private school, and it's probably easier to get into that dental school as opposed to a state-run dental school.

My current status with Case is a "hold" as they're waiting for my second DAT scores.

aw man. now i'm really sad that i got rejected from case. =*****(

I really love not having to share a cubicle with anyone in the 3rd and 4th year. This way, I can customize/personalize the cubicle to my liking (i.e: play music on my computer during work and add in a massage cushion to my dental chair).

Plus, you get to live in Cleveland!!!! 😴 What more you could ask for? No distractions for studying🙂

bro, i was there a few days ago and I was told that there are a LOT of people who's app is not complete because they haven't received the secondary's back yet. they also said not to worry too much because it doesn't take that long to process once the app is complete. they said def. try to get it in by mid oct though.

but just make sure you turn in your community service hrs report and shadowing hrs report asap.

i turned that all in. im pretty sure i got an email saying im complete. i know i got an e-receipt for my sup app

i turned that all in. im pretty sure i got an email saying im complete

cool, I also found out that each interview will be composed of 48 applicants. They invite total of 192 applicants for the 104 seats. so little more than 50% chance of getting accepted after getting an interview. I think it is a bit higher for in-state because they invite a lot of out of state for the first 2 interviews.

oh yea, i did that community service portion too. i did everything on my part, as long as nothing got lost.

The clinical style of teaching sounds really cool. What other schools (besides Case, Harvard, and USC) offer this?

you might want to call them to make sure they have everything. OSU is HUGE on community service so that is one form that they should have it no matter what.

when did you get all your stuff in?

ps i turned that com ser. form in around 8/28 or so

very attractive ladies there! But don't go outside the school

They also have you doing clinical stuff your first year. They host the Give Kids a Smile Day in the winter and your first year you actually participate in it. They told me that you also do cleanings in the winter/spring of your first year. It isn't anything big but hey it's more than I've personally ever done.

Plus their preclinics are awesome with the DentSims.

I feel like the rest of the dental schools around the country should start adopting this within the next ten years. For now, it will be limited to only the top clinical schools. In my situation, my receptionist is this brunette chick that I hang out with on the weekends. She's very thoughtful because she'll bring me a hot cup of coffee (Creamer/Splenda) every morning at 8 sharp when I walk in. I need the caffeine. Just this past week, I ate some powdered gem donuts over one of my patients and got crumbs all over the floor around my area. I kicked them under the chair so the janitor would take care of it later in the day.

If I need privacy at my office station and time permits, I can close the door and talk on the phone for a while or kick back on the sofa for a nap after a short lunch. The trick is to keep elevator style music on the Winamp playlist at a very soft level. That's where my patients wait when I'm stacked up in the clinic. We got rid of those cheap, unpadded waiting room seats and snack machines a few years back. There's a chance this December that we might get monitor upgrades for our stations. I'm about ready to ditch this 19" LCD for something more robust. I can work on my research presentations easier if the monitor is larger. I pay enough for this!!

I'm anxious to hear about anyone else learning the ropes under this new method. Some of the dental schools I checked out forced the students to share the chairs and floor space. That's a no-go for me. Our class size is small, and they train us as if we are working in a dental office from day one.

In about 3 years, Southern Nevada will be opened up a 3-yr d-school in Utah (South Jordan). I know the majority of us won't wait for another 3 year but if you still in your freshman or sophmore year, this might be a great school for you.🙂

I call BS on the Utah d school.

Is that a joke? Back when I interviewed there, it seemed that all the classes were at least 65% men. A lot of mormons, and a lot of married people.

Solid school though. Great facilities, great reputation.

Utah doesn't need a D school, they have one in cleveland, columbus, Ft. Lauderdale, Omaha, SF, las vegas, mesa, halifax, and philly.

Did I miss any where there is like 30% mormons?

I agree 100%! I AM from Utah and the last thing we need here is a dental school. Why put a dental school in a state where there are two dentists on every corner? Oh yea-$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

do states w/o d-schools have any financial arrangements with other schools to lower the cost of tuition for those students since they don't even have the option of attending an in-state public d-school?

I understand Utah doesn't need a d-school but Utah's population had been increasing dramatically for the past years. You'll never know.

I disclosed this info because my dentist is on it. He has been talking to the Southern Nevada pharm-school for the past 2 mo about put a d-school in Utah. If you don't know enough to be sure whether my info is reliable or if you don't have access to the newest info, then do not call me BS...

and also, Utah doesn't need one doesn't mean they won't built one (for those who go to UoU, Marylin told me the exactly same thing too, however I believe she doesn't have any info or connection to the SN school), if you want to prove that I'm not talking s**t, you can contact the dean of Southern Nevada, someone that knows what's going on.

I'm sorry guys, that's all I'm going to disclose, you can choose not to believe me (although for sure you'll regret in about 2 years), that's not my business.

I will still call your BS. There is no way that the state approves it with it having no connection to the UofU.

I won't believe it until it has an entering class. Sorry, they have been trying to get one for 20 years. There is NO WAY that southern nevada pulls it off.

Listen and listen good dddsmack, I never say the school (UOU) itself does not have or will not have any connection with the school of SN, I simply say that Marilyn doesn't know anything about it (yet).

You're not qualify to call me BS because you have absolutely no ideas what's going on...I suggest you to do some research before you badmouthing your peers.

okay, I'll chime in.

I doubt it is 3 years away, but that Utah school is coming. The argumentof there being too many dentists in one areafor a school to come up has been used to try and block other schools, like Nova, but in the end, the population served by a dental school isn't the same one that is served by dentists in private practice, so the school usually goes up anyway.

Also, deans from other dental schools have already begun talking about the Utah school that will one day be built. It isn't 3 years away, may not even be 5-6 years away, but it's gonna happen. They thought arizona was a pipe dream, and now a second one is already being built.

I agree that people are fighting to get it built, but they have been for 20 years to no avail. And I also agree that it will be here someday. But it will not be southern nevada that does it. It will be the UofU, if anybody.
