I took the CASPer today and I feel very uneasy about it. I feel as though the questions are controversial in a sense that whoever judges the answers will use intrinsic bias and personal morals in order to grade. I don't think it is fair to allow these people to dictate your grade; I mean, what makes their opinion so righteous and valued. I understand that a lot of questions have an inherently right answer or one that the majority would value as morally correct, but others are very borderline. Would it not make more sense to allow the admissions committee to view your answers to see if you are a fit for their college? I am just venting because I don't believe this test is functionally adept at depicting one's characteristics or personal values solely by a number grade. I feel it would be better if those who are interested in the candidate could review their answers in their entirety. What's everyone else's thoughts?

I may be mistaken, but I believe the ways that Casper is graded is not necessarily based on your moral reasoning but is based on internal consistency through a objectively moral framework. Like if what you’re saying is objectively morally right and then throughout the test you have the same internal consistency with your logic I feel like that’s what they look at.

What are your thoughts on schools using it as selection criteria? NYU stands out to me as they joined the Casper trend this year.
I think it is another layer of artifice in a process that is already filled with unsubstantiated barriers.

I think it’s a sign that applicants as a whole are becoming even more competitive and difficult to differentiate from each other, and med schools are adding yet another metric to set people apart. It’s shameful that it adds even more costs onto an already exorbitantly priced process, although CASPer is a lot more reasonably priced than the MCAT, which is highway robbery.

Speaking of, can’t wait until I have to pony up $700 for Step 1.

I don't so have a problem with answering these moral questions and allowing the ADCOMS to determine if we are a good fit for the schools, I have a problem with a third party organization interpreting our answers and giving us a numerical grade that the ADCOMS then use to help differentiate us without ever seeing the questions or our answers...

...and they don't tell us either. It's a black box that we are supposed to trust them with.

I don't see how morally right and objectively go together. I haven't taken the test, though, so maybe there's something I'm missing.

Here's a sort-of-unrelated question. I'm waiting for my MCAT retake to come back June 18th. I'm applying to several schools that require CASPer. Can I just pay for 1 school to send it just to take it? Then, when I get my MCAT retake, can I send my results to the schools I'll apply to?

Yes you can!
