I recently got my interview confirmation letter for OHSU and the program says that the interview day is "Dress Casual." 😕 I doubt I'll be wearing jeans but just wanted to see what other people think.

I was also wondering about this. I think U of C said something similar in theirs (and my fingers are crossed on OHSU).

I was thinking of doing something a little more relaxed, pediatrics-fitting cartoon tie, khakis, and a navy blue sportcoat. But people I know who already interviewed there said not too many people took them up on that offer. 😳

I was at UofC for my home interview on their first day. 3/4 of us were UofCers and the us two guys both dressed casual. I wore no sports jacket and he wore no tie. Our recruitment coordinator says all of us UofC guys take them up on it and most days only 1 or 2 others actually do but they always are happy to see those people and remember them..

They did tell us a story of a guy who might've taken them too seriously to dress down. He wore sandals.. on a snowy day 🙂 Granted, I've worn sandals on-call around the hospital during my Sub-I (AI for y'all in the south) but on interview day?

Having been to a second interview, UofC really is a great resident-run place with teaching AND quality of life-focused directors and I would not be in the least disappointed if I stay.

Bajillionare- what's with the PMing on OHSU casual dress? I wanna know too!

Sorry, I just really wanna hear from OHSU so I PMed asking when the OP originally submitted and heard back from them.

I also just suggested either calling the Residency Coordinator or maybe the chief res. Another thought would be to contact someone from your med school who is a current resident there and ask what's up.

I just interviewed at a program that suggested casual dress and everyone was wearing suites. In fact all of the residents I spoke with wore suites to their original interview. My suggestion: wear a suite, then if you feel over dressed just take off your jacket.

I'm planning on wearing nice slacks and a nice button down shirt to my one interview that offered casual dress. I really don't care if everyone else is wearing a suit -- the letter SPECIFICALLY said casual dress, and I will be far more comfortable than I am in a suit (which I think is a stupid thing anyway -- yea, I look nice, but I also look perfectly fine without the suit jacket). If no one else wants to follow the directions, that's fine by me, but I'm gonna be the most comfortable one there!

Casual dress for an interview means wear professional clothes like you would wear on a regular workday not jeans casual.

Exactly! That's actually what it said in my letter -- dress like you would for clinic or the wards. Hopefully nobody would think that means jeans, but I don't see why people think they shouldn't do the casual dress.
