Lets say a cat has a broken lower limb (left leg), how much would that cost to fix? Any advice would be appreciated.

Too many variables -- which bone, type of fracture, type of repair (if any), region of the country and so on.

Thanks for the reply. If it is obvious that the cat's leg is broken, would it be better to see a specialist in peds right away or see general vet first? Rough, what is the estimate surgery cost (best and worst case scenario)?

If the leg is broken, the cat would probably like to go to the vet now. Many orthopedic specialists that are not associated with emergency clinics require a referral. A general vet is a good place to start and can either do the procedure his/herself or refer you to someone who has more training in that area of expertise. As for cost, Bill is right...it totally depends on the area of the country, type of break, etc. Just like you wouldn't expect to have to pay the same price for a stress fracture of a metatarsal bone versus a shattered femur.

I agree as well. If this hypothetical cat's leg is apparently fractured the first step is an assessment by the family veterinarian ASAP. He or she will be able to make recommendations regarding diagnosis and treatment or referral, as well as discuss potential costs.

Not to mention provide appropriate pain relief that the hypothetical cat would obviously desperately need.

Agreed. Anything from several hundred to several thousand. Not to mention surgery complications, pain management costs, if the cat is a good anesthesia candidate or not, if the pins/plates fail, angle of break, any infection, etc etc...FAR too many variables.
