In AP biology we're going to dissect cats. I'm really excited because I'm one of the main cutters. If you're in AP biology, does your class do cat or any dissections?

In my Human Anatomy class we did a cat dissection, it was pretty sweet! My cat was huge and it was really easy to see different muscles, veins, arteries, etc.

Also in my Anatomy class, today we "played doctor" and IT WAS AWESOME. We'd be given a patient who reported what their symptoms were to us, we could request different blood tests, and had to successfully diagnose the patient for a grade. My two patients had Leukemia and Addsion's Disease, and I was the first in the class to correctly diagnose 👍

My high school doesn't do physical dissections anymore. A lot of colleges are starting to drop it too. UVM hasn't done it in about 15 years.

Online? That's all good, but there is an overpopulation of cats, and I'm more of a real life, hands on learner to start.

This is random, but what do you guys think of Biochem major vs Biology major?

Do you think Biochem would give better job prospects with just an undergrad degree? Aor of the core classes are the same, right?

Biochemistry just sounds more interesting, it's better than the cliche biology major option. I was planning to major in biology too, but then I saw that Penn State offered a toxicology major in the college of agriculture and I instantly fell in love. I stumbled upon it because I was looking for schools with decent agricultural majors and found it.

I dissected a frog and a baby pig. That was it, not a cat though haha

In my pre-vet large animal class I took sophomore year, we dissected a fetal pig, and it was the coolest thing ever.

why cats? haha. fetal pigs have much closer anatomy to humans...

I "played Doctor" a fair amount in HS too but it was never quite like that! Good job on the diagnosis. I never got to dissect anything until there was a human cadaver sitting in front of me in med school. You guys are lucky!

Survivor DO

We did pigs in bio as well as cow eyeball and sheep brain lol.

Just finished extracting the spinal cord with brain and eyes like last week for my A+P final. It was pretty awesome not gonna lie. Fetal pigs were cool, but in my animal science class for Ag we dissected a 10 foot snake! 😀 That was cool until it started really smelling lol. The teacher brought the snake from home that had died.

Welp, in my anatomy class we dissected baby pigs. Also, this year I took marine science and got to dissect a starfish and a shark, which was pretty awesome.

I dissected a cat in AP Bio...it had 4 kittens, pretty much full term and probably would have been born within a week. I don't remember learning anything but that 😛

Yes and yes. Not sure what we will be starting with first. Next week we're just watching a film.

This sounds awesome!! When I was in high school biology, All I remember is cutting out paper ACGT nucleotides, and trimming down wild invasive species of bushes. At that time I swore I would never take another biology class ever again. If my biology class was like yours, I would have liked it so much better. 👍
