Can you apply to categorical 4-year PMR programs and also apply for transitional/prelim years? My question is if you match in the categorical and you match in the prelim, what happens then?

Your head will explode. :scared:

I dont' think you can match both categorical and prelim. You will have "rank list A" and "rank list B" so if you rank a categorical spot, you will not have a "rank list B" of prelim programs.

yep, exactly right.

Can you apply to a categorical (4 year) program and the advanced (3 year) program at the same institution?

Thanks for the good information guys. Im a 4th year osteopathic student who is currently apply for physiatry. I will be applying for an osteopathic rotating intership year through the osteo match (which occurs before the allo match). I will be applying for physiatry programs through the allopathic match however some of these are categorical programs and others are advanced. So my question is what happens if I match a rotating internship year in the osteo match and than match a categorical in the md match??? I can not seem to find an answer to this question, your help is greatly appreciated. 👍👍

If you match into an osteopathic PGY-1 year you will be pulled out from (and completely unable to match into) any programs in the allopathic match that overlap with that.......ie you will be dropped from any categorical programs.

If a categorical program will likely be at the top of your rank list you may want to forego the DO match for internship and plan on scrambling into one if things don't work out w/ a categorical spot....there will always be open spots in DO pgy1 years somewhere.
gotta run...will write more details about this later when I get home
