categorical vs advanced

I'm in the middle of application prep...If the program has both categorical and advanced, is it better to apply both? then apply for prelim separately? this is confusing...

pls anyone has experience and suggestions? really appreciate...

Applying to both increases the number of spots you are vying for and therefore increases the chance you will land at that particular institution. Of course, the downside is you will have to find yourself a prelim to qualify for advanced. Please search next time, this has been discussed many times =]
