anyone ever taken any for sleep? A colleague of mine swears by it

It depends on the THC content. It is supposed to have low values of THC, with some reporting <0.3% and some <0.03% THC. Typically these are not enough to trigger a positive test for marijuana but there have been reported cases where people were persistently positive on UDS from taking CBD, ostensibly due to strains that contain more THC than claimed. There is no requirement of manufacturers that they test the products at all, and one manufacturer that does test, reports a 61% variation in CBD (and THC) content from one batch to the next. Some do not care whether they exceed 0.3% THC and products have been found with as much as 1-2% THC. There are no standards required of manufacturers in production or testing, or assurance their products have any CBD in them at all. The FDA found several products when tested, had no CBD at all. It is a crap shoot taking this stuff since you haven't the foggiest idea what it contains.
 
I take it for my back pain but I can also say that it helps me sleep in a better way. So, maybe partially yes, I take CBD for sleep.
