Cc/Bcc: Sending a general email to all the schools I've applied to

I was planning to use Bcc, to hide all the other email addresses. Is there any way schools can get around this. Just curious 😀

I've heard that there are some mail systems that show all the BCC addresses in the extended header but more likely than not they won't be able to see. Personally I'd go with BCC but if it really concerns you, might as well just send 'em separately and save yourself the anxiety.

I had the same worries last cycle. I ended up sending individual emails. It's worth the peace of mind, in my opinion.

I don't think you should have a problem with them seeing all the addresses, barring the system mentioned above. But this thread begs the question, what kind of email are you tryin to send to all schools at this time that would worry you so?

True, it's an extra 15-20 mins.. but probably worth it 👍

Your outgoing mail server might add a header revealing all BCC recipients, but that's rare and unlikely. The recipients will either get an e-mail addressed specifically to them or an e-mail saying something like 'sender list suppressed.' In any case, I recommend you don't BCC and take the time to personalize each email with the school name.

I'm guessing it's an update letter. Nothing sensitive in it, but imagine getting asked at your interview where else you're applying. You'd probably prefer not to get asked that question. Ditto with telling schools where else you're applying via a "failed" BCC. I agree with the posters above about just sending them individually.

True story:

A year ago when I was new to the medical school process and was learning about SMP's, I wrote a very long email explaining my situation and basically asking for a description of their program and how the kids in their program do. I CC'ed all twenty schools since I figured they recieved emails like these all the time. One school in New York, responded to my email by saying that, "I dont justify my time responding to spam mail." I responded by saying, "too late." Althogh very stupid on my part, I was really apalled, as i had taken a great deal of time writing the email and was very naive about the entire process.
