I'm attempting to apply to med school in a couple years. My undergrad GPA is 3.5. I'm recently stressing over a computer science course I took last winter. I stopped attending as I was working full time and I realized the field wasn't for me I was just exploring my options. I had no idea it would matter to my undergrad GPA. So now I'm worried I've crashed my GPA from a 3.5 to a 3.4 just because of a random CC course that has nothing to do with pre med. Will med schools give this grade that much weight? I worked really hard at the end of undergrad to just reach the 3.5 so I'm pretty devasted I ruined it with a class completely unrelated.

Is it a big deal? Or am I stressing too much.

Thanks

I have not even applied to med school yet so take this with a grain of salt, but when I called and inquired about my nursing GPA (being a 7 point grading scale vs a 10 point grading scale in most other majors), I was told that anything not BCPM was barely even looked at. This may be school specific though. Hopefully others can give their insight.

You are stressing way too much. 3.4-3.5 isn't make or break. Also, go to AMCAS website and convert your letter grade to grade points so you know how much it will affect your grade. If you took a 5 unit comp sci class and a 2 unit bio class, the comp sci class will have a greater affect, ie a greater weight. It isn't the class, it's the units. Again, it's not really a big deal. I got 7 II's with a sGPA of 3.4 and cGPA of 3.5, so you'll be fine.

Anyone other thoughts on this? I used the AMCAS spreadsheet for my GPA. It looks like it estimates 3.5 overall, 3.43 science, and 3.81 cumulative BEFORE the post bac classes.

When I add the post bac Computer Science courses it brings it down to 3.45 overall, 3.43 science (I didn't include the classes as a BCPM), and 3.5 cumulative.

It brought down my entire cumulative from a 3.8 to a 3.5. And how much is cumulative weighed? Will admissions take note that it's just due to the post bac classes? It's making it hard to concentrate on MCAT study when I keep raking myself over the coals for this. Will admissions take into account my undergrad trend? I consistently made the Dean's list. I mean it's hard enough as it is, I just hope it's something admissions will look past.
