CCE Interview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I recently interviewed for them and just had my clearance done today!

In the beginning they just want to get to know you so they had everyone in the group (3-4 people) introduce themselves, name what they're aiming to do career wise and an interesting fact about them. Then they asked questions you would expect (why do you want to do this, what would you do in this certain situation, name something you struggled with that was non academic-what would you have done differently, what's your weakness/strength, if you had all your finals in one week how would you make time to come to your weekly 4 hour shift, what if a patient is yelling and screaming what would you do) and yeah pretty much questions like that. Also, at my hospital they varied questions so if two people already answered a certain question then they would have a new question for the other two. Make sure to volunteer to answer first because someone else might say what you wanted to say and now you have no choice but to repeat or have a weak response. Also ask questions in the end like what kind of advice the interviewers had (or wish they had when they started), what are some cool things that they've seen happen. Just smile a lot and seem at ease even if you're not. They want people who are friendly and honestly the only way to not get in would be if you answered extremely badly or if you had a bad attitude.

Also, bring a notepad and take notes!

Good luck!:luck:

Good luck! I have mine on Tuesday at hoag Newport I'm pretty nervous! It'll be good thou 🙂

Thank you so much nm06033,
I'm quite nervous for this as I've never worked inside a hospital before. Hopefully I'll make a good impression.

Hello,
Has anyone recently gone through the Clinical Care Extender interview?
I have mine tomorrow, and I'm not sure what to expect, and how to prepare for it.
What kinds of questions do they ask?

it's very relaxed but they make it seem like there it's hard to get into the program (at least at my site that's how they presented things) - i think to make you want it more.

also use the search function, there are longer threads about this same topic in which you may find more useful info

This is pretty much all you need. I helped conduct interviews for one of the programs in SoCal - just try and be at ease. Honestly, the interviewers want to like you (even if they seem intimidating). Just give them some reasons to do so and they'll give you a favorable recommendation to the director. They're mainly looking for things like:

1. You're not a sociopath
2. You're friendly and you're the kind of person they would want to be around
3. You aren't arrogant (you'd be surprised how many people come in with a haughty attitude...it sinks them pretty quickly).
4. You're a good team player (a lot of questions regarding conflict resolution, teamwork, cooperation, etc.)

tbh, if you've ever interviewed for a standard college student job (starbucks, bookstore, etc.), you've probably heard some of the questions before. It's all pretty standard stuff; there aren't really any curveballs, at least when I was there.

Feel free to PM me if you've got any other questions, and good luck!

Oh yeah one more thing: we LOVE being asked "what was your favorite/most memorable experience in the program?" Because seriously, everyone loves to tell a good story, and most of them will have one 😉

It has been a few years since I first interviewed and joined the program, but I can't help comment a few things.

CCE was one of the best clinical experience i had during college. Even though I had to drive 45 mins to the hospital, every shift was worth it. I was put in challenging situations and presented with all kinds of cases and people. It changed the way I see people, health, medicine, and life. And honestly it was the one experience that made me realize that medicine was the right path for me. Of courseGaribaldi Townhouses, it definitely gave me plenty of stories to tell (to people and during med school application season).

Advice: Take the initiative, ask questions, always offer to help. The nurses and techs will be much more willing to teach you if you show enthusiasm! I got to administer CPR, saw some gnarly things, and helped in procedures because of this =)
