I was also a little worried that no CCLCM students have taken the boards so far...so there's no way of telling how effective such an innovative program will be.
I received a CCLCM acceptance, but i'm about 95% certain I will turn it down, mainly due to the reasons I've listed above. I have an acceptance to the CWRU program too, and I liked that program a lot more. I'm curious to hear more about why you guys like CCLCM so much though.
Are you just really independent learners? I could totally see myself slacking off in that kind of environment, hehe =)

junathon said:as a student at cclcm, we will have access to the labs of some of the best researchers in their respective fields...if you are worried about the reputation of the school, think of it this way: your md degree is from case, and you get all the benefits of a case student, i.e. you can take classes there, and you have all the resouces of cclcm at your disposal.
fakin' the funk said:side note: i interviewed at both, and felt my interview w/ dr. hutzler was the best i'd ever had, and felt i was a shoo-in based on what he said and how he responded. the case interview went well, too. result: accepted at case & waitlisted at cclcm. 😕
fakin' the funk said:the above are all true for case students as well.
but don't exaggerate the interdependence of the two institutions: cclcm is its own program that just needed a degree-granting institution to back it up.
and the students of the two schools exist in two very different worlds. i got the impression that most cclcm students lived away, perhaps far away from school. everyone drives to campus. they are probably a little older than their case counterparts.
case students, on the other hand, appear to live mostly w/in walking distance of their campus, and apparently threw a fit when the administration assumed they'd walk over to cclcm for that one-day-a-week class the two schools share (case rented buses for all its students). it seems the case students have a better student community amongst themselves.
long post short: though the institutions are related, it doesn't seem like anyone is taking advantage of the things you mentioned (yet).

You are definitely right. I think they are more separate than what people think. However, it is not untrue to state that you will be a case student. You will have access to their fitness facilities, access Case classes ( you can take up to 2 elective classes outside of your MD curriculum without becoming a student of another program), have the option of doing a masters, and have the support of a large university (library system, clubs, student union). Whether or not you take advantage of it is your prerogative.
I hope by the time that I arrive that students on both sides will take advantage of those things across the street. Maybe Ill be the ring leader! Ha.
Also I think that the CCLCM students were getting along great. I was in the lounge waiting for my interview time .and seems like they let their guard down and were having a good time with one another. I can not compare their attitudes to the students at Case though I cant imagine a group of 32 people not being comfortable with each other.
