Hi everybody,
I'm currently trying to choose between CCOM, MSUCOM, and DMUCOM. I'm having a really hard time with this decision. I am very invested in global health, so I'd like to go to the school with the best global health program, but I'm not sure which school has the best program. If anybody has any knowledge of the best program -- or any advice as to how to narrow down my options, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I can only think of one way to narrow down your options........einey meeney miney mow, catch a tiger by it's toe, if he hollars make him pay...........
sorry, couldn't resist.
Have you been accepted to all three? If so, which one gave you the best impression at the interview? Which one talked the most about what interests you. Have you attended their open house (if they hold one) and how much info about global health is on their websites?

Man, that's a hard decision. If I were you I would just decline them all and reapply in a year when you know what you want to do. I mean, you don't go to a school unless you really want to go there...

So decline them all, reapply next year.

At MSU students from COM and CHM go on several medical outreach trips per year. I went to Peru. They're doing a Dominican Republic trip over break. Last year they did a trip to Haiti. There's going to be another Peru trip next summer. Plus, they are going to have more international elective rotations set up for fourth year.

Also, we have a professor who works in Malawi, and students can do an elective there as well.

I believe there are a number of masters programs that deal with global health as well.

Thanks, everybody! i have been accepted to all 3, but I haven't visited MSU yet (I'm going Jan 29th). Hopefully it will be easier to narrow down my options after I visit MSU. DMU and CCOM both gave me good impressions, but I do have to chose between them by Dec 30th, when deposits are due. Thanks again for your advice.

I went to all three schools and was accepted to all three. It's all up to you. For me I went with MSU because I'm from Michigan and it was my top pick to begin with. I thought DMU was awesome and would have been totally happy there. CCOM did not sit well with me. I got the impression that there thought they were the best school ever and sort of cocky. I was not impressed for the cost at all. I know its a great program. I think all of these schools will give you a quality education. If you like more rural areas that is DMU and MSU. At MSU its in the city but agriculture is huge there so it has a nice balance of many things.

I was in this same position and was leaning toward DMU...until I visited the MSU Lansing campus. The facilities weren't as impressive but my interaction with the students totally made up for it. They were great. I am out of state, so tuition will be high, but all of the OOSers said they got a decent sum of scholarship money. I am curious to which you choose. Good luck in your decision. 🙂

Agreed, MSUCOM tuition is ridiculous...

Scholarships will knock it down to IS rates.

I know very little about global health however I know a fair amount about MSU's public health dept. The program just started this year and all of the classes are online through ANGEL.
