Anyone know what set CCOM apart from other schools? I'm trying to answer the personal statement question: Why do you believe CCOM would provide you with the type of osteopathic medical education you are seeking? Thanks for any info.

There website is definitely not very helpful in this regard. I'm having trouble as well. I began talking about their core values, and how I respect them, blah, blah, blah, but I just didn't like how it was coming together. So I'm still putting together something. Some people are so much better at this butt kissing than I am.

I think they do PBL, which might give you something to write about. Location in Chicago should be a plus for learning. You can see their match lists, don't know if they are good or bad.

i spoke of about how students get acquainted with a clinical setting during the first 2 years and how CCOM is a very established institution

I got in w/ it. Maybe also mention about the awesome rotation sites in the greater Chicago-land area

I guess I'll join the crowd and start BSing lol. The problem is there's only a point or two to BS about. 500 words is a lot of BSing.

Seriously though, location, early clincal experience, well established, ....uhh can anyone else add some more?

I was reading the Class of 2009 CCOM thread in Osteopathic forum, and there's some stuff in there that's mentioned. The learning style is different at CCOM, they do alot of class longer, and it seems more inclass stuff comparitively to other schools it sounds like.

do you get your clinical or your patient contact in the 2nd year?

but part of the 500 words is why osteopathic medicine. the first half of my essay was about why om, and the second half was about why ccom. sure, the website isn't, but ccom's got a lot of pluses to mention, including innovative curriculum (pbl parts), early clinical exposure, location, quality of rotation sites, rigorous reputation, high board pass rates, good match list, long history, etc.

Just BS it about the clinical rotations and residency opportunities. They like it when you stroke that part of them. You could also claim you are really interested in EM and claim CCOM is a good place for you because CCOM has produced more ER docs than anywhere else (apparently)

Can anyone tell me more about CCOM's rotation sites? Where are they and how reputable are they? Also, is CCOM big on underserved health?
