TAKE THE TEST TOMORROW!

when you are seeing a patient in the clinic and you have test results that won't come back for a day or two what do you do? obviously, in real life you'd send them home and either call them with results or have them follow-up. with the CCS do you just keep them at "Office" status or do you change them to "Home"? when you change them to "Home" status and it gives you the option to schedule appointment, is that to schedule the time they return to the office or go home? While they are at "Home" can you just perform a history to see if their symptoms have improved (i.e. like a phone call) or do you have to schedule a clinic visit to perform that. likewise, say the delayed test results prompt a treatment that can be done as an outpatient, can you just prescribe the necessary treatment or do have to reschedule a clinic visit to do that?

THANKS FOR ANY RESPONSES!!

For whatever it's worth, I have found that playing with the practice CD shows what happens in such cases. If the case is a stable one, and there is no harm to the patient, send the patient home with possible empiric treatment, and reschedule a followup visit. Don't forget to cancel first anything you don't want the patient to continue at home. During the interim before the scheduled visit, you will notice that the lab results will suddenly "pop up" to let you know the results. Then at your next meeting with the patient, you can narrow your treatment plan accordingly. It most likely will also pop up with the patient "feeling better" or "worse" depending on what you did. If it doesn't pop up, you can click on "interval history" to see if your empiric treatment is of any help. I also have noticed that the examiners try to worry you about what you choose in your treatment plan by noting that the patient's mother calls still concerned about the baby's rash or what have you. There are options in the program for reassurance if you think that's the way to go. It appears they are trying to see how sure you are of your game plan.

Best advice: practice with the CD for valid answers as well as the most ridiculous to see how the program responds. Also try things out of order. That, too, can affect the results.

Good luck!
