I've been searching these threads to find an answer to this question but thus far have come up short. Basically, I'm wondering to what degree we're expected to "fully manage" a patient who we admit to the floor in the CCS cases. In other words, should we be entering a diet order, maintenance IVF, DVT prophylaxis, etc. etc.?

Also, I can't figure out how to enter dosages and frequencies for medications...does the program just assume the correct dose for you??

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide!

Before the case closes you are asked if there are any further things you want to order. Just as you would do in "real life", you certainly would order anything for the patient you deem appropriate, and discontinue any orders that are no longer needed.

As for your second question: dosages are not required for the test, but the name (not the class) is required. If memory serves, I don't believe the schedule is required either, except if it is "continuous" or "one time order".

Best suggestion, I feel, is to practice the CCS cases provided once you sign up for the exam. It will give you a feel for how the program works.

Hope this is of some help. Good luck.

Yup...dosages arent necessary...Diet/IVFs are (I mean I think u get points for those)

If you haven't already, you NEED to download/request the official USMLE Step 3 CD-ROM and do those practice CCS cases. They'll show you everything you need to know.
