I'm doing CDP and for people that have done the real DAT (good or bad) can you please rate on a level of 1 to 10 (1 being not similar to real DAT, and 10 being identical) how you felt CDP reflects the real DAT for each section.

Eg.
Keyholes: 5
TFE: 6
blah blah blah

...please respond, would be good to get as many as possible. it would be cool to see the overall consensus and for my own personal use ( i might just plug some values in excel and make up some statistics given theres enough responses)

heyy
cdp was rly on par with the real one , personally
from my memory, what i was getting was 19/19/18/21/22/19/24/24/24 something like that.
I started doing cdp after doing all the pat practice tests on kaplan.
on the real one, i got 22, which is about an average of what i was getting for cdp.
angle is much easier on the real one, so don't worry tooo much on that.
just keep practice with cdp until u get the score u want 🙂

well that was a big fail lol. thanks for your response haha. ok, did you find hole punching hard on CDP?...hole punching on Kaplan was definitely a strength for me but now its become my weakest section. would you say CDP is more refelective of the real DAT or kAPLAN for hole punching?

From my experience, hole punching was very similar to the real thing except for two things: On the real dat the holes seemed a little smaller or the screen was less crisp, so I had to look at it a little more to be sure of where the punch was and on the real thing there were a few triagonal folds where they made a V shape that I hadn't seen done on CDP. It wasn't more difficult, just unusual compared to what I was used to with CDP.

For all of the sections:
Keyhole: 9 (people say that there are more proportions but I didn't find this, it was VERY similar to CDP from my experience).
TFE: 8 (real dat was not as tricky)
Angle: 9 (from my experience they were VERY similar, with the DAT being maybe 10% easier. The real dat does have these square frames around the angles, which I think helps you judge the angles easier than CDP where they're just free floating in the screen).
Hole: 8
Pattern: 10

I am not the strongest student here, Im shooting for an AA 18-19 which is what I need but from countless hours doing the CDP tests I can tell you it helps a LOT.

I was really discouraged at first because my scores were very low, but seriously keep practicing and your brain will get use to it. Sometimes I feel like I am going to do bad and I still get at least a 19.

If there are certain sections that you are doing the worst in, practice those over and over randomly, so you do not get use to the questions.

A few tips that actually worked for me...

1. For angles close your eyes before each problem and as soon as you open them find the smallest angle, it really does help your score, then narrow down with the answer choices.

2. Keyhole just takes practice practice practice.

3. TFE really focus a LOT on the lines, and dotted lines... I still do not feel very confident on this section but I am always surprising myself now on how well I do.

4. Hole punching is the same method as TFE, practice!

5. Cubes, try the 012345 method, where you tally up then answer the questions for each different set. I am always getting 100s now on that section unless I get an illusion one and I am not on the top of my game.

But, to be honest I have spent the most of my time practicing the PAT, so I am hoping it really does me a favor when I take the test.

Good luck, everyone is different so methods that may work for me wont for you, but there are tons of tips on here!

Keyhole: 7/10
TFE: 10/10
Angle: 8/10
Hole Punching: 9/10
Cube Counting: 2/10
Pattern Folding: 9/10

This is based on my experience. Keyhole was definitely easier in CDP as it took me some time to eliminate false choices in the real deal. I only gave 2 for Cube Counting because there was no illusion, cubes no more than like 20 unlike what you see in CDP often. Real deal was much easier in cube counting.

Well that wasn't very nice now was it? What exactly are you going to do with these statistics? How are the statistics going to help you improve on the actual DAT? Just practice, that's all you should be doing for the PAT. Trying to dissect CDP and DAT overlaps is a waste of time that you could be using to study and practice. Considering the fact that CDP is the ultimate resource for PAT practice problems, what's the point of trying to determine similarities between IT and the REAL DAT? Because in the end...you're still going to use CDP as a practice resource, since technically it's the only real PAT practice resource out there.

End rant.

yea i agree with loganheinrich that the holes for holepunching is smaller on the real one compared to cdp's. I think topscore's image for holepunching is really similar to the real one.
Also, cdp's holepunching is harder than the real pat. And yea, like Demps said, theres no illusion on the real one. they're more easier on the real one.

CDP- 10
Old ADA Tests- 9 (Awesome for pattern folding- my real test had VERY similar ones)

If you can do these two sources well, then you will be straight. Angle ranking is what generally prevents a perfect score.
