I understand that the Central Disk is important in regeneration. The Kaplan BB states, "If a starfish loses an arm, it can regenerate a new one; the severed arm may even be able to regenerate an entire body, as long as the arm contains a piece of an area called the central disk.

So I understand the purpose of the central disk, but does anyone know in more detail what exactly it is?
