Hi DeJarra!
So nice to hear from you. The day I moved in, a couple of the folks who work here at CT mentioned that on August 1st 30 people were going to be moving in. It's almost impossible. There is only one docking bay that you can back your truck up to. There is no other way to move your stuff in, no other bays or entrances. April said it wasn't acceptable to move things through the lobby---so if you try to, she'll probably stop you. It took us probably about an hour or so to unload the truck into the big hallway. I suppose that in the hallway there is room for several people's belongings, so if you can just get your stuff off the truck and then gradually take it up to the apt, you'll be in good shape. There are a few carts available to move things with. My boyfriend came up with an ingenious idea though. Before we left Cleveland we went to Sam's Club and bought industrial shelving (like you would see in a restaurant kitchen) that comes with casters. We bought two and put them together and loaded them onto the truck without the casters. When we arrived in KC, we took the shelves off the truck and put the casters on. We then used these as transport devices for all my boxes and crap. They are heavy duty, so they can hold a lot of weight. Now I use the shelves in my apartment as.....shelves! One in the kitchen, one in the bedroom.
OK, so anyway, I think that the Metro (which I'm assuming you're getting) is a very efficient little apartment. The bedroom opens up into a walk-in closet area with built in shelves to hang your clothes. In addition, the bathroom is right there off the closet with MORE built in cabinets. The bedroom has a built in shelving/closet as well. Once I got all my boxes and crap into the storage locker, the place looks pretty nice! There are some feng shuei issues
but I'll get it together! Trust me, I had ALOT of stuff! I'm on the 10th floor...so you'll have to come visit. Email me and I'll give you more details.
I like the little gym, the veranda is nice to sit out and have a beer and relax, the hot tub is nice...there's a fax and copy machine and several study rooms.
The main thing I'm bummed about is that they won't sign for UPS packages for you. You have to be here to accept it. And if you keep missing the delivery, you'll have to go pick it up somewhere, God knows where. I have recommended to my loved ones to send things via US Mail, since there are a few large mailboxes for bigger things.
I went out with "mompremed", Catherine the other nite. We had a lot of fun! She was celebrating her recent acceptance. It was so nice of her to invite me along! I haven't met any other SDN CTers.
The BBQ is still on, as far as I'm concerned. Friday the 16th. Time? It will definitely be BYO stuff I think. Maybe we could have a little money pot for donations toward the meat. I can bake brownies and make a side dish. Depending on the number of people, maybe a few people could bring some baked beans and a veggie tray or something like it. John (b/f) will be in town, so people can bring their honeys/family if they want!
Whew! Long post!
I'll talk to ya soon DeJarra and everyone!
M.
