Dental School is where I want to be, and I see my self as a dentist within the next 6-10 years. But I am only a sophomore in college and I am stuck on a very tough decision.

I am currently a Biology major and I am not too happy with the overall curriculum. I know that most classes in Dental school deal with biology, and I enjoy it, I just do not like the program at my school and I cannot afford to change schools. I am thinking about changing my major to Ceramics and finish up my pre-reqs for DS. What do you guys think about this? I know for one it will help me stick out, but do you think it is worth it? I have done some ceramics work and I really enjoy it. Maybe a Ceramics major with a minor in Bio or Chem?

I really appreciate any advice/insight that can be given.

You can major in anything you want. Dental schools don't care about majors as much as long as you get good grades, esp in your science classes. Go ahead and major in ceramics (sounds cool) if that's what you like but take a variety of upper level biology classes and get good grades. Good luck.

I graduated with a psychology degree and was accepted to UMich and UPenn. It doesn't matter. Do the one you like best, the easiest major, and just take the prereqs. Keep that gpa high!

Honestly, the whole idea of pre-dents taking ceramics is kind of absurd to me. It doesn't even apply to dentistry anymore since most dentists don't craft their own stuff. I feel like people take it just because they heard it's helpful, but I really don't think it is. In the end you are literally taking one course so you can put it in you "manual dexterity" section. Take biology, not just because it's more science, but because, chances are, something you learn in that bio class is going to be relevant to something you study in dental school, unlike ceramics.
