Certifed / Uncertified

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think it should help you tremendously because it is realated
to dentistry. It gives the admissions people a great impression
about you..."This person really wants to be a dentist". Most of
the admissions of Medical and Dental schools look at the
directly related experience very positively. It's an "ACE of trump"
that you carry ...most of us do not have it..It will certainly make
up for lower DAT or GPA , and if you have great numbers,
you will be "the choice" of the dental schools. All the best friend!

I dont think it makes a difference as long as you have been a dental assistant for some amount of time. To be a dental assistant you have to know what you are doing whether you are certified or not. The certification may make a tiny bit of difference but I doubt much.

I think being certified has other connotations, such as also being certified in anesth., although I could be wrong in this.

I think Gavin talked about Dental Hygienist.

does a certified dental assistant make you "better" than an uncertified? anyone know what admissions think?

Whether or not you are certified, an assistant will usually perform the same functions in the average dental office. The difference is that the CDA has textbook knowledge behind the clinical skill while the preceptor trained assistant knows what to do and how to do it, but not necessarily how it actually occurs chemically, physically etc. While the former would seem "better", as far as ADCOMS go, I doubt it would make any difference at all.
