I am currently personal training and my company will reimburse us for a certification each year. Since I am applying to PT school I am thinking of getting Gray Cook's FMS certification. I was wondering if people who are familiar with it think this is a good one to get or if there is a better one out there and how it much the FMS would help me? Thanks!

NSCA's CSCS seems to be the most widely recognized from my experience. Plus the test wasn't all that hard, though I did have a huge interest in that material going into it.

If you are going to get anything, get the CSCS. Pretty easy if you have ever lifted weights before and know anything about exercise physiology.

FMS and the CSCS are different certs. FMS is more useful for PT, PT school and personal training. I use some of the movement screens and corrective exercises. However CSCS is well more recognized. Get both!

I think the FMS would be a wise investment. If you haven't already read it, Gray's book Movement would be a good background for the course. You can get the e-book for $9.99 at davedraper.com
