I've searched this forum about my particular question and could not find any information that was pertinent.

I may have some charges from over 10 years ago that I do not remember if I was convicted of or not, could be dismissed. The county that I was arrested in is far away, therefore I am not able to obtain the information in person. Obviously, nothing can be down over the phone.

I need to disclose this information in my AMCAS application, but the Certiphi CBC is available only after I submit my application. What's up with that? Any possible way I can obtain the the Certiphi CBC before I submit my application. I tried calling them and they responded back saying they do not perform CBC per request of individual only via organization such as AAMC, participating medical schools, businesses, etc.

Essentially, what I'm asking is if there is a way to obtain this report before submitting? Seems as if the process is backwards to me. Especially since we are the ones paying for the CBC.

What are the charges for?? Were you a minor?

If you were convicted then you have to state it on AMCAS.

Also, you can obtain a criminal background check from another company. Does not have to be Certiphi. If the charges are not on this background check, then most likely it will not appear on Certiphi.

Try your local police station first. They provide CBC. Say you need it for application to work with vulnerable persons etc.

But your best bet is to be honest.

Some guy from last cycle got his only acceptance revoked from failing to list a conviction [for something minor] on his AMCAS. School saw it on his background check - took back their acceptance.

Disclose everything.

Because I'm paranoid, I ran a background check on myself at ussearch.com. Like CodeBlu said, you might have to do a little research to make sure that a 3rd party search is as exhaustive as Certiphi.

Go to the court and ask for a record. It's available free of charge.

I believe you can go to Cerpheti and order your own background check if your willing to pay for it. That's probably the best way to determine what they are going to list or not list. Also, if you hold out for the background check endorsed by the med schools you will have a chance to contest any information that you believe is inaccurate prior to it going to the med schools for their review.

Hey there, I called Certiphi and they said "They almost NEVER reveal any records from the years under 18 unless there was some extreme case." I'm guessing this extreme case would be something along the lines of murder, rape, other crazy felonies, etc.... So if you were a minor at the time and the crime was a minor consumption or something around there, medical schools will not find out about it.

If it were me, I would have a hard time sleeping if there was a chance an admission offer could be revoked because of something I intentionally left off. I really think full disclosure is the only way to go. Best of luck.

I have so effing many its not even funny lol. Just to name a few. DUI, possession of marijuana < 1 oz. (misdemeanor), Loitering for drugs, multiple driving on suspended driving licenses, multiple misdemeanor speeding tickets, multiple failure to appear, probation violation, etc... all petty misdemeanors by youthful indiscretion.

Of course, immature way and lack of dealing with the repercussions of my actions have changed. I'm just highly disappointed in myself as I list all my misdemeanors, they are gonna think I was effin ******ed.

You guys are definitely right about CBC from different companies tend and more than likely are different. That's why I plan on disclosing everything. I guess I should start rounding up court records from my neighboring counties. The only thing I have going for me is that I have no felonious crimes. If that's even something to smile about.
