certiphi screening for 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
FYI, Certiphi screening emails are school dependent. some schools don't require a background check until april, so depending on when you get in / where you get in, you may be waiting a while for the certiphi emails.

I called Certi, fyi since i was getting impatient!

So when the report goes out in 10 days, and you've been accepted to multiple schools, do all of them receive the report? Or only the ones that require a January bg check?

i believe the school sets the background check date (according to certiphi).

i would assume it would go out to all schools that mark via AMCAS that you've been accepted. if the report is already available, i don't see why they wouldnt get it!

Got mine, filled it out, was completed, and released it alll within a few hours on the 11th. Some schools might be behind on this so there's really no reason to get worried

Wahhhh?

I got mine on the 11th, too, and it's still under review. I'm done for...

Still haven't gotten mine yet 😕

Haven't gotten this email yet. maybe particular schools havenn't sent them out yet. Which schools are sending these out?

I'm not sure if this was already stated, but if I have been accepted to multiple schools (all of which use Certiphi background check), I only need to submit once correct? Will they send my completed background check to all of the schools that request it? Thanks.

Well, I just got mine back. Everything checked out, but under my addresses, it says that neither transunion nor merlin could verify my address info, which makes sense since I wouldn't have a credit history as I have never had a credit card. Do you guys think this will be a problem?

I hope not. I have freezes on my credit reports and don't feel like having to unfreeze them just for this.

Well, it's just to confirm addresses. I'm sure there are plenty of people who matriculate to medical schools every year with no credit reports, and they do just fine. I'm going to assume that the point of this is to make sure that you're not a criminal, not to check on an address that they've confirmed with you a bunch of times already.

The same thing happened to me. I don't think it will be a problem. At least I hope not.

Still haven't gotten my e-mail yet....

I got accepted from a school on the list pretty early on too...😕

What is this GeorgiaRelease form thing that is in additional requirements? Do we really have to do this or does the background check occur without us faxing this in? Did all of you get this?

I have no idea what you're talking about, so I'm guessing I didn't get it (and didn't have to do it).

I got the initial email to sign up and submit to a background check (Friday). Then today I got an email telling me that they were done and I could view the results. I quickly scanned the report and saw that each one said "no records found" then went ahead and released it. I guess "GeorgiaRelease" could've been one of the specific databases they checked?

Hmm. Hearing this, I think it might be a Georgia specific thing which makes total sense. There was a time when i lived there for a few years. BUT the release form made no mention of Georgia or any of that and it looked basically like the disclosure form but asking for an actual signature and faxing it in to an address in Pennsylvania. I thought it was just coincidence that it was called Georgia but it would make sense if it was because of my previous residence there. geez... more work.

So once we release the report, do the schools automatically receive it?
Or do we need to individually send them with the "Report Delivery Manager"?

Yup, I seriously doubt anyone would say anything about unverifiable addresses. If this is the case and they try to verify addresses, I've only had a credit card at 2 of my 7 (listed) addresses. Ahh, the joys of living a nomadic life as a child. *shudder* The addresses help them target local jurisdictions' databases for queries; so I bet if some addresses come up as unverified they probably do a little more of an extensive, wider search of local records. When it comes down to it, they'll find something if it's there. And that's what the schools are most concerned about.

Bt dubz, got mine last Thursday, submitted Saturday, and am still waiting. They have to search two states and multiple jurisdictions for me. :/

I got into a physical altercation 5 years ago in high-school and was charged with a misdemeanor. I explained it to all the medical schools I applied to and every school seemed to be okay with it. So I read that if it's a minor offense you can get it removed from your record, so I went to the courthouse to get a background check printed and submitted for expungement. I came back to pick up my results, it was over 7 pages of crimes from multiple counts of felony drug possession to obstruction. I nearly passed out in the clerks office. Then I looked closer and the DOB was early 80's, in Washington DC and a different name. Talk about a scare 😳 Just submitted my CBC. Hopefully the same thing doesn't happen again because I won't be going to med school. Not because of the background check, but because I would have died due to cardiac arrest.

That's odd. Were you 18 in high school when that happened? As much as schools like to scare you, juvenile offenses generally don't show up unless you're tried as an adult or as a sex offender. In some states, it's down right illegal to even ask about juvenile, marijuana, and expunged convictions.

That's not to say they're absent, but rather that these types of less intrusive checks usually exclude juvenile offenses (and for good reason), but sometimes include expunged records as an adult. All law enforcement agencies still have access to juvenile records, though, making it necessary to come clean if applying for law enforcement or other government/sensitive jobs.

I got this, and assumed it was something they needed to search the Georgia databases, since I lived in Atlanta for a year during my post-bacc. My only issue with it was that it said it would come with a cover page and fax number, and it didn't. I called Certiphi and they gave me a number to fax to and asked I put a cover page on it that explained the situation. Submitted the online portion Thursday night, faxed the release Friday morning, received my report Tuesday afternoon.

Just got mine and submitted it... did anyone receive a confirmation after they submitted it?

just submitted and i didn't get one. i just logged back in though and it shows a blank application that hasn't been submitted though? does that mean it never went through?

Yeah same. I think once it's submitted it doesn't save (i.e. you can't log back in and see what you've submitted). I'm sure it went through though. If I don't hear back in a couple of days I'll give them a call.

I received a confirmation email maybe 15 minutes after I submitted my report. This was at 8am though if that makes any difference.

No confirmation for me either. Released yesterday.

And now I'm in the same boat as everyone else... nervously awaiting those results. :scared: I hope there's no problem with my addresses because I have no credit...

Yup, unfortunately happened senior year of high-school. Either way I mentioned it to both schools I received an acceptance at so I'm not super nervous. It was just very frightening seeing 7 pages of unexpected felonies 👎

Ugh, that sucks man. I'm glad you told them and put it out in the open: props. I couldn't imagine taking a risk like not mentioning that and ruining countless years and effort on a future that would crumble before your eyes after being accepted. I sometimes have dreams like that; like something stupid I did as a kid somehow got back to the committee, you know? *shudder*

Congrats on your acceptance! Glad to have you aboard 🙂

😎 Much obliged

I received mine yesterday and sent it today, I'll update with how long it took and how the results were when I get them back. I am pretty sure my speeding tickets and running stop signs and window tint wont be showing up since those aren't misdemeanors but it still scares me. None of the tickets were for going way over speed limit.

"This kid had illegal tint!? And he failed to report it? Rescinded!" LoL Can you imagine?

I'm kind of worried...I submitted my form on Friday and it still isn't complete. o.o My record should be clean; I wonder what's taking so long.

Mine took 4 days and I have no record. I have lived in three different states though, which I think slowed things down for them.

Mine took a week. No worries.

Thanks! I feel a lot better now. 🙂 After reading about people who had weird stuff show up on their records, I was worried they'd list some stuff that someone else did on my records, lol.

Just came back, I have a clean bill of health. LOL.

I'm clean 😎

I had a minor panic attack when I was reading through it and saw the words "sex offender" in giant bold letters. Luckily it said "no records found" underneath it.

Still nothing here *sigh* Did you all get an email notification when it came through? Or did you keep signing in and checking?

Yes you get an email when it is complete.

What happens if you can't remember addresses from years ago? It says put down ALL addresses, but I've moved ALOT and I can't even remember some of the addresses I've lived at.

I had the same problem. I was a juvenile at the time and moved a ton, so I just put down the one address I could remember and put it down time-wise from birth to 4th grade. I mean, they can neither search juvenile records nor adresses as a juvenile anyway. As for adresses you don't remember as an adult, just go back as far as you can remember. That's all you can do.

For one of mine I couldn't remember what was the specific room address for my two years in the dorms (>7 years ago) and just put down the main address for the dorm.

I think for the background check they really just need to know what county's you had lived in because they use that to check the county records for any criminal history. This is just a theory but when my report came back they specifically accessed the county record for any addresses I live at. Hope this helps.

I completely forgot to put down the dorms as a past residence, and I just remembered I am registered to vote at that address... am I in trouble?

Should I try to contact them and add the address? Although I think they make a big deal about submission being final...
