Hi everyone, I appreciate your time and your words of guidance.

To expand on the title:
ORM
cGPA 3.0
sGPA 2.8
MCAT 510
Grad GPA: 3.8

I graduated in 2015 and I've spent the past two years in a Thesis Master's program and working full time in a basic science lab (multiple publications).

I am planning on shadowing a DO physician and hopefully receive a LOR for this upcoming cycle.

I have about average EC/volunteering/clinical experience compared to other applicants I see in other threads.

My question is if I apply with these stats do I have a good chance of IIs/acceptance to a DO school?

Or would you suggest not apply this year, improve my undergrad GPA with post-bacc courses? or apply to a SMP in the future? (I think it might be late to apply for SMPs?)

Thanks for all your help

I suggest taking undergraduate science courses at a local college (community college would be fine) in order to increase your sGPA over 3.0 Then apply in 2018 to at least 15 DO schools and include all of these schools:
ACOM
ARCOM
BCOM
WCU-COM
LMU-DCOM
UP-KYCOM
WVSOM
VCOM (all 3 schools)
UIWSOM
NYIT-Arkansas
RVU-Utah
any new schools that open for 2018.
With your current sGPA of 2.8 you risk being screened out of many schools.

Thanks for your response. I know that some schools do not mention anything about GPA cutoffs in their admission pages. Is it possible that these schools still have cutoffs but just do not make it public?
Do you think an improved MCAT score would help to overcome the screening if I were to apply with a 2.8? Or is it more likely a strict GPA requirement?

Thanks

Your MCAT is competitive for ALL DO schools so there is no point in retaking. You just need to raise your sGPA above 3.0
