Hi everyone,
I am going to be graduating soon from a highly ranked university. I tried my hand at my pre-med courses while I was here, but did not put in the work that was required of them because of my indecision whether or not to pursue medicine. Now in my last year, I have rediscovered my passion for science, and am doing very well in my science electives (B+, and A's), and want to pursue medicine again. However, I am not sure where to go from here. I am a passionate student outside my science courses (founded my own student organization, big student leader, have received student awards, have great recommendations from science professors and prestigious public health internships). I am an exceptionally smart student when I focus, especially in science. But I am not sure what post-bacc options are the best to pursue at this point. I know whatever options I have left will not be easy, but I am willing to do whatever it takes. Looking forward to feedback.

if you retake all the bad grades you got, you could put your science gpa up to a 3.2 or so and then apply DO. Or do a postbac

You could do a one year post Bacc and retake the prereqs you did poorly in and it should raise your aacommas GPA quite a bit. MD will just average it, so you would have to take a ton of bcmp classes in order to get it up.. so DO is looking pretty good! Depending on your MCAT..

For the best shot at MD, stay in college an extra year for GPA repair, emphasizing math and science, getting a 3.7+ GPA. Take the MCAT and score well. Apply to SMP programs in a year. See the Postbaccalaureate Programs forum for more info, attn to Dr Midlife's sticky at the top.
