My brother-in-law took the DAT without ever having taken any GenChem or OChem and got a 20. He was working full time and it took him 3 months. Pretty amazing! I tried it and really struggled. I taught myself last summer but didn't feel confident enough to actually take the DAT. It can be done without having taken the actual classes. When I was trying to teach myself I did have a GenChem professor that was able to answer all my OChem questions. She was a great resource to have. I think I would have been able to do it last summer however I tired to squeeze in a microbiology class over the summer and it ended up taking more time than I anticipated. If you have the determination you can teach yourself. Just be patient and give it time.
