Anyone had any luck with this yet?

It seems like the type of thing that will keep me out of my state school just because I'd get nervous...

What is a chalk carving test? Is it anything like the soap carving on the canadian DAT?

probably, although i havent looked into it

basically you have to take a blade and carve a bunch of planes into piece of chalk using ONLY the blade (no smoothing over with fingers 🙁)...on LSUs website they say that you basically have to be above average to even be considered for admission (they also want a high PAT score)

Was asked to do one for LLU last year. Practiced night and day for the test until my fingers had blisters. At the end of the day,not that bad. Look it up on the internet, they may have the actual figure to carve out, so you will know what to expect.

they actually have a video on the website showing you EXACTLY what to do and EXACTLY how to do it...but its timed and the grading is EXTREMELY stirct...and lets be honest...its friggin chalk...i havent been able to check the materials yet but chalk seems brittle in general...wat if i break it...i cant imagine my app going down the hole because i cant form a perfectly symmetrical dome on top of a 3/16 of an inch 45 degree angled incline or w.e it is that its spose to be

Just do it. If they are showing you how to do it before hand, it can be done. And remember, if it is difficult for you, it is difficult for the majority of people. If this chalk carving test is the only thing keeping you from going to this school (assuming that you want to), then do what I did and practice like hell till your motor skills are relying more on muscle memory and you start seeing this carving in your dreams. This is what my mentor told me and I went to work with it. If you want it bad enough, you will get it done.

BTW: if you can get the same material for practice, look at how the material reacts with moisture. The chalk that I had was much more easy to work with when slightly wet. (Use spit- I know it's gross) Come to think of it, I was licking the hell out of the chalk figure being pressed for time- LOL. Good Luck!
