So for a summer research internship at a top academic hospital one of the essays that are required is the "dreaded" challenge essay haha. So I have two options I'm considering and I was hoping to get some feedback, advice on what direction I should do. Let me preface this by saying that I also know that the point of this essay is to demonstrate coping skills when you face adversity.
Option 1: When I was still in high school I got into a automobile accident and while I was not seriously injured I did have some broken bones and whatnot. This accident prevented me from participating in two different sports and made completing my HW and other school activities a challenging task. So I was going to talk about how I learned the importance of perspective since I wasn't physically able to what I had initially planned and thus redirected my focus into other endeavors, as well as the discipline I gained from rehabbing, and my proactive approach with my professors in terms of setting achievable deadlines.
Option 2: I became president of a local chapter of a national student organization. Then the national office contacted our advisor and to inform us that our chapter was no longer valid/active due to negligence of national standards over the last couple years by past presidents. I then had to contact the advisor and apologize on behalf of our chapter and complete a reinstatement process. This process was quite extensive with a lot of moving parts and required me to utilize strong leadership and interpersonal skills including "managing up" to ensure everything was completed. It was a stressful process that also was made more difficult by me being involved with a heavy course load and other extracurricular activities.
What would be more appropriate? Also bat signaling @LizzyM and @Catalystik for your wisdom 😀 Thanks all!
