#2 is certainly an interesting challenge in terms of the challenges of animal care. Why not be a vet, right? Certainly showing vets in a bad light isn't good strategy.
I'm not sure about #1 either. It's a challenge but I don't see the stakes for you... it's not like you would get fired if the patient didn't show up.
I would focus on being honest rather than being different. And by "honest" I mean seriously a challenge you overcame in your life. Everybody struggles. It's OK if your struggle is mundane or common; it's true to you.
