What do you guys think my chances are of getting into columbia. I have a 3.4 science. 18AA/19TS/17PA. I have my x-ray license and have been published in my school biological science's journal. I am also doing dental research.

ima a cali resident too

your PAT score may be a bit low (I have heard Columbia emphasizes on DAT scores more than GPA). Are you applying for the next application cycle? I would retake your DAT's if you really want to go to Columbia. Your stats are fine if you just want to get in a decent dental school like NYU. I believe Columbia's avg DAT is 21

I'm applying for this application cycle. I have already interviewed there.

I would also say your DAT is a bit low (in all sections, not just PAT), but who knows, you might still get in.

anyone else has an input on my situation?

I'm honestly confused as to how acceptances work but I know someone who has similar gpa as you but higher DATs (22AA/21PAT) and he's been rejected. He has quite an extended list of extracurricular activities too. His interviewer kind of suggested that his gpa is below their standard during his interview. I don't get that... if they thought that, why the heck did they invite him for the interview? 🙄

Anyway, I hope that isn't the case for you. Best of luck~

what school did that person go for undergrad? My interviewer told me that my GPA was perfectly fine considering I attend a competitive engineering undergrad school, and she told me that being in a more competitive school will prepare me better for dental education than a school where everyone gets A's. Of course, I don't know if everyone on the adcom are on the same page in terms of the importance of GPA vs. school prestige. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that I can be the lucky half that gets accepted.

ladyxjc,

it's now "columbia university college of dental medicine"
they just changed it a few weeks ago, sent out an email, had some formal hurrah, etc. not like any of the first years really cared and were really attached to "SDOS," as we've only been here for a whole 4 months.

Yeah, I read it on the site... guess I forgot to change it in my signature. But I like SDOS better than CODM... lol, not that it's a big deal or anything~

That is very true. i come from a very competitive science school. So my 3.4 can be anothers schools 3.8. the adcom of course looks at the school you are coming from and takes that into account. As for DATs everyone is on the same plane so that i can understand.
