Chance at PM&R

How competitive am I for Nassau University Hospital, NSLIJ, JFK rehab in Jersey, and Newark NJ ??

I'm not that good with dissections. For PM&R do you do group dissections per cadaver or does every resident get their own cadaver to dissect?

I'm asking because I hated dissecting and was never good at it in Anatomy class. How will this affect me during residency??? Are there any other options besides dissecting? Can we observe?

Thanks!

Do you know which programs you have to dissect and which ones have the cadavers are dissected?

Dont get me wrong, I loved anatomy but I was never good at dissecting so thats why I dont want to do surgery. But I liked studying for it, its just memorization and we have to be good at it in order to do OMM in DO school.

So when I searched Temple University PM&R curriculum page, this is what I found that made me believe that we have to do dissections:

" Under the supervision of the Department of Anatomy, Temple University Health Sciences Center, dissection of the back and the limbs is performed, with special emphasis on those aspects pertinent to Rehabilitation Medicine and Orthopedic residents. Cadaveric dissection is required for PGY2 and PGY3 residents. "

I was just taking a look at the PM&R residency program at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, Brooklyn NY program.

It has the following requirements:

"Prospective applicants must have a minimum board score of 205 (85) on USMLE Step 1 or 600 on COMLEX and have passed these examinations on their first or second attempts. "

Now a 600 on comlex is a superrrrrrrrr high score and 205 on USMLE is not that competitive.

So my question is how can they require such a super high comlex score and a low USMLE score??? Is this a mistake or is this for real?

Hi Guys! I have a question about PM&R.

For the residency I understand that the first year is an internal medicine year then you apply to PM&R residency.

So in your 4th year of medical school how does it work? Do you apply only to an intern year then apply again for PM&R residency? OR Do you get accepted to the PM&R residency with the intern year?

I have no idea how this works and not sure what is the difference between Intern year/traditional year/ prelim year.

If someone can explain this to me that would be sooooooo awesome!

Im a 3rd year student in case you are wondering 🙂

So let me ask you guys - In my 4th of med school, should I apply for PGY-2 PMR residencies at the same time I apply for Traditional Internship PGY-1 positions ???

I am so lost please someone help, thanks!

OK, seriously, you really need to cool off on the million questions Re: PM&R residency. We get that you're stressed about getting a residency with your COMLEX score and all, but there is no need to create multiple new threads daily and then post a followup question within minutes. You need to sit down, breathe, figure out what your priorities are, especially being that you are not even applying this match, and then come up with one thread/post that will pose all of your questions. Additionally, SEARCH this forum for answers. A lot of what you are asking can be found in threads/post from years past. You really need to KEEP CALM AND CHIVE ON!
