  1. Pre-Dental
Hey, everyone I'm looking for opinions as to what kind of chance I have at landing some interviews/acceptances this coming cycle. Here are my stats...

Indiana resident
oGPA: 2.99 following AADSAS guidlines and 3.21 through my university (they grade replace)
sGPA: 3.14
DAT: 21AA/21TS/23PAT
Shadowing: 100 hrs between two general dentists, 20+ hrs in each endo, ortho, and OMFS
Volunteering: 200 hrs at a free medical/dental clinic for the underserved community at time of application and will continue throughout the summer

A little background. I began college in 2000 as a fine arts major and decided that it was more of a hobby. I was very dumb and didn't drop any of my classes and just stopped going and received four F's. A couple years out of school was enough for me to decide to actually do something with myself, so I went back in 2004. One of those classes I failed was no longer offered so I couldn't retake that one, but I did retake the other three and easily got A's. I graduated in 2008 with my biology degree and was accepted into a medical technology program and performed well in it (a pathologist here at the hospital equated it with one year of med school in terms of the amount of information we had to know and amount of tests we had to take). And I have been working full-time as a certified Medical Technologist for the past five years.

I know my GPA is awful, and knew that I had to do really well on my DAT, but it is still within the range of many dental schools in the 2014 guide. Currently I'm taking, and getting an A in, a graduate-level virology course and have signed up for a couple more for next fall. I will applying this cycle to my state school as well as about 20 others.

My family and girlfriend thing I'll get accepted somewhere, but I'm pretty much expecting the worst and hoping for the best. What do you guys/gals think? Thank you.

You should definitely look at schools that look at either the last X number of semesters or the last X number of years for non-traditionals like yourself whose undergraduate education as spanned quite some time.

It's gonna be a steep uphill battle. Not impossible but as you said, prepare for the worst.

It probably depends what your GPA trend has been the last 60 credits or so.

Thanks for the replies
