Just spoke with my school counselor and she didn't feel comfortable suggesting schools that I should apply to. I am a CA resident. My stats are oGPA: 3.39 sGPA: 3.45 24AA/25TS/23PAT. I don't have many shadowing or volunteer hours but I plan to go crazy on those before June rolls around so I would estimate around 100+. I do have about a year of research experience but have not been published yet. I want to stay in state but the schools I am interested in (UCLA, UCSF, UOP) seem out of my league. Can anyone give me suggestions? Thanks!

your gpa and dat scores are fine
apply to 10+ schools
get more than 100+ hours of shadowing
make sure you have a letter from a general dentist

Not out of your league based on stats alone. But as far as Extracurriculars, I don't know how they look at a sudden surge of volunteering and shadowing right before applying. But it may not matter as long as you get the hours. I got in one of the schools you mentioned and your stats are slightly better than mine. Although I had a great committee letter, ECs (dental related and others) and a great PS (if I do say so myself). Counselors are such a source of discouragement at times, which is a shame. Most don't know what they are talking about and others just try and scare you out of decisions you feel are right. Trust in yourself...and the force. Go for it! Good luck.

Your DAT is wayyy better than mine and got into UoP. Your stats are fine my friend. Idk about all your other extra curriculars, but just based on stats, you have a shot. Apply to some other schools like Michigan and Pitt

I'm wait listed at UCSF with an AA17. Relax.
