I'm sorry to pester you all with yet another one of these:
cGPA: 3.69
BCPM: 3.56
No significant upward or downward trend to speak of.
MCAT: haven't taken yet but have been scoring 33-35 on practice tests. Take the real thing in a few weeks.
ECs:
~200 hours volunteering at hospitals in various departments (ER, Ped. ICU, Pat. Transport, etc.)
2 yrs. Biophysics Research. 3rd author on a publication and presented for a state conference.
Army ROTC Cadet with 4 yr. scholarship
Ranger Club and Color Guard - 2 clubs related to ROTC. I have a leadership position in the first one.
Alpha Phi Omega - Active member. Roughly 70 hours of nonmedical service over the past 2 years. Served as secretary and then webmaster this past year.
ESL Tutoring - volunteered 2 hrs. a week for the past 1.5 years helping immigrants learn english
In the honors program at my school, and a few honors societies (I'm aware they don't count for much, I just thought I'd mention it)
Will have 80 hours of shadowing by the time I apply. Have shadowed 3 ER docs, 1 family practice, 1 surgeon, 1 internist.

I honestly do not care where I end up, though I would prefer to stay in the midwest (I am from Creighton in Omaha) and am fine with DO.

Your stats look good. If you get a 30+ MCAT I think you will have a great chance of staying in the midwest.

Your grades look good and your experiences are wonderful 🙂. The only thing I can think of suggesting is maybe a little more clinical volunteering/experience, the more the merrier right? Good luck and keep on the great work!

Finally got my MCAT back. Got a 33R
11 PS 9 VR 13 BS
Should I retake to get that verbal up, or is it good enough for most schools? Also my sGPA is actually 3.58 since it turns out a course I thought was philosophy counts for physics. Don't know if that .02 makes a difference but I just thought I'd mention it.

I will be applying to MD and DO schools and would be fine with either, though I would prefer to stay in the midwest if possible. University of Kansas or KCUMB are my top choices. I submitted my AMCAS back on June 22. Any feedback on chances would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I didn't mean to post my stats and ECs all over again. I thought that a whole new thread would be created when I hit reply.

I'd bet your heart is feeling light tonight. Great job on the MCAT. Your VS is fine. No worries. Odds of an acceptance are now 80.6%.

First, I want to thank everyone on this forum for all the great advice on navigating this process.
Second, I'm hoping I can get some feedback on my list of schools.

For M.D:
Creighton
Case Western
Emory
Loyola-Stritch
Oakland
Rosalind Franklin
SLU
U of Toledo
Tulane
USUHS
U of Arkansas
U of Iowa
U of Kansas - Top Choice
U of Kentucky
U of Louisville
U of Missouri-Colombia
U of Nebraska
Vanderbilt
Wayne State
Rush
Michigan State
Albany
GWU

For D.O.:
KCUMB
KCOM
Des Moines
MSUCOM
MWCOM in Chicago
OUCOM
PCSOM

I tried to avoid choosing schools with strong in state preference (except for U of Kansas) but I may have made an oversight somewhere. Feedback on this list would be greatly appreciated.

Even though I'm technically a KS resident, I've lived in Kansas City most of my life and went to high school on the Missouri side, as well as having relatives in Missouri. Arkansas and Iowa not so much. I guess I'll remove those schools then.

Got my first interview invite this morning! I'll be interviewing at UNMC this October. Was really surprised here since I'm a non-resident. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to everyone on this forum for the great advice, especially Catalystik. And to all other pre-meds who haven't been through this process yet, just do the best you can on your grades, rock the MCAT, get all of your EC bases covered, and hope for the best. Things will turn out for you. And for the love of God, apply early. Thanks again for all the help.

Not to be a debbie downer, but I was looking on their website and found that it says "Competitive academic averages for screening out-of-state students in 2010 were 3.7 science and cumulative GPAs and MCAT scores of at least 32 cumulative with no subscore below 10."
It's definitely possible I'm reading it wrong but it seems to me that the 9 in V might hurt you there.

Just a thought. Here is the link.

Thanks for that. I'll rethink U of Kentucky then. Does U of Louisville select heavily for in-state, too? It seemed like they did when I looked at their secondary application, but it seemed to have a decent OOS acceptance rate when I looked at the MSAR.

I interviewed at Kentucky, 3.58, 35. VR10. so you don't need a 3.7 to be interviewed.
U of L is a second in-state choice for most Kentukians, So I think its worth trying for OOS. the oos tuition+expense is outragious, for class 14' at uky is over 80k. However I would be optmistic about your chance of getting accepted to KU or some higher ranking schools. There are things that set you apart from the rest, such as rotc and weekly esl tutoring of over a year and a half.
