Hello,

Posted a while ago but wanted to reformat. I am asking if any knowledge people can either tell me to alter my plan or humble me.

Currently:
- working 10 hours, sun-wed
- researching 10 hours a week at school
-taking one CHE class
-volunteering at a hospital 8 hours a week
-studying for mcat whenever i can (15 ish hours a week)

-ORM
-2.4uGPA(120 hours)
-515 MCAT(Hopeful, scored 515-520 on AAMC FLs and 510 on PR FL)
-3.3 Chem Eng Masters GPA(halfway through)(30 hours)
-Gaining Clinical Hours now, will have 500+ volunteer clinical at App
-500+ research hours, Chem E related designing dialysis membranes(super cool)
-200 shadowing hours (cardiologist and GP)
-worked at clinical laboratory for last 3 years (NGS sequencing for cancer

LOW UGPA: worked at a grocery store full time during covid and undergrad, GPA tanked but i got to help the community and it was an amazing feeling.

When I was 13 my dad had a heart attack. The doctors were amazing to me, explaining they didnt know if he would make it but still giving me hope. They saved him, and I feel it as my duty to do the same for someone some day. The volunteering and shadowing are not something I did just for the application, I enjoy them both more than my paid job. I feel being a physician checks all my boxes, and would allow me to be completely fulfilled in life in caring for others.

Plan:
-Jan Mcat
-Apply next cycle (opening 2026)
-if i dont get in, put che masters on hold and do a DIY postbacc at a community college as it is what i can afford

GPA is low, even for DO.

With that being said a 4.0 postbacc with science courses paired with a strong MCAT could save you.

I would apply mainly DO with your state MD schools added in.

Who told you there was a chance?
Do you have any nonclinical volunteering?
You have more than enough research and way too much shadowing! Maybe stop those and focus on the MCAT. Much about your chances rides on your MCAT score so this should be your priority for now.
Good luck on the MCAT!
Come back here and post your score next February.

I told myself there was a chance, are you saying there isnt one? Seriously, I have no idea. Ive talked to some schools and they seem to be receptive; as long as my MCAT is really good. I am focusing heavily on MCAT at this time and will be done with research soon.

You could have become a paramedic/EMT. I don't think we can tell you about your chances without an official MCAT result.

Ill update with MCAT results ASAP. There are a couple reasons I didnt do EMT /medic right after school and I DMd you with some. As for why Im not right now, I guess this fire for medicine was recently rekindled. Im gonna stay where Im at while I study for MCAT because I know how to fit studying into my job as it is. It is in the equation for the next year of my life, I think I would really enjoy the work.

I’m not saying anything like that. I just wondered what your premed advisors are saying. Study hard for the MCAT and get some nonclinical volunteering. Much about the whole process depends on mission fit at each school.
Good luck.
