Chance of matching into anesthesiology with only comlex.

I am a fourth year medical student, from a DO school, and I am in the Navy HPSP program.
I am interested in anesthesiology. I only took comlex, got 596 on comlex level 1, and 498 on level 2. Med school GPA around 85%.
Do I have a chance at matching into any civilian anesthesia programs? And which programs should I apply for?

Just looking at the program director's survey (take from it what you will) - 86% of programs require a target USMLE Step 1 score.

Where I was on the admissions committee, they threw your application into the trash if you didn’t have USMLE scores. Is is probably different for Osteopathic Anesthesiology residencies.

You need USMLEs. Those aren’t strong scores and you dropped a large amount (100 points) with Level 2 which is a red flag.

Strongly consider a backup specialty, although you could apply to brand new community programs (Ocala Regional in FL comes to mind) which will likely struggle to get quality applicants. Most if not all will not interview you without USMLE - committees just don’t know what to do with COMLEX taken in isolation as not all applicants take it creating a lack of a level playing field.

It doesn't matter in the Navy. Your chance of doing a civilian program after your GMO years is pretty slim.

What about applying to civilian deferment/full time out of service before GMO?

It is try true that some people do end up going on to civilian deferment after GMO but that is a small number that is specialty dependent. You would be best served by looking up the stats in that regard. Essentially people with Navy HPSP or USUHS students have 3 pathways to go down:
1: Get slotted for a continued track program...best bet unless you like GMO land.
2: Do a TY year and then go on to do a GMO of at least 1 year...can be terrible or can be great, depends on your attitude and your ability to make the best of a **** situation. I know of at least one guy who did a year of GMO and had a ball...went to flight school and did all sorts of cool ****.
3: Do a TY year and get a civilian deferement...unlikely in the Navy.
The primary goal of the military is for soldiers to do military residency. I'm not telling you not to go for it, but from what I can tell the Navy has plenty of slots available to do an Anesthesiology residency. Being in the military is beneficial in that the usmle is less accounted for...at least as far as Anesthesiology is concerned.
