Hello everyone,

I am kind of new to this, so I just wanted a little help from you guys:
I am a Texas resident so I will definitely be applying to all 3 Texas schools, but I am not sure where to apply for out-of-state schools.

1) I know that Texas schools are competitive, so which Texas school(s) will at least interview me?
2) Which out-of-state schools should I apply to, based on my stats?

My info/stats:

College: University of Houston (Class of 2014)
Major: Supply Chain (I don't know if this will help, hurt, or do nothing to my chances)
GPA: 3.55 Science, 3.65 Overall
DAT scores: 21 PA, 21 QR, 19 RC, 20 Bio, 20 GC, 19 OC
EC: Enough
Shadowing: Enough

I know that my DAT scores are a bit boring and average, or even a little low (19 OC, and 19 RC). I have yet to take Organic Chemistry II, so it doesn't feel too bad to have gotten a 19 on it. Ok, so where do you guys think I stand for an opportunity to get into a dental school?

Thanks

You will probably be accepted to Baylor and UTSA, but UT Houston may be a stretch so do well on the interview and you will get into all 3.

baylor is a far stretch since they like bio majors.... what is AA?? u never posted it

question 1: we will never know where u will be interviewed at.... its a lottery

question 2: apply broadly.

I think I can help you get a little perspective, we have very similar stats actually! Our DAT scores were very similar and my gpa was a 3.7 overall and 3.65 Science. I'm also not a bio major (psychology). I applied to all 3 TX schools plus 10 OOS schools. Out of the 3 Tx schools, I got one interview and one acceptance. Out of the out of states, I got 5 interviews and 3 acceptances. So from all this background information, I would say that you have a decent shot at SA, but I really believe that Baylor prefers bio majors or non bio majors with incredibly high stats (my non bio major friend who had a 24 on her DAT just got in last week). I'm really unsure to what Houston is looking for because I was rejected without an interview invitation. The reason I applied OOS as well as in Texas is because, like you said, TX schools are really competitive and I wanted to get in somewhere. A few good OOS friendly schools to apply to are: MWU-AZ, NOVA, NYU, Western, BU, and Tufts

Keep in mind things are confusing. Some schools that I thought were a "reach" gave me interviews. Schools I felt were more in "my league" didn't even interview me. Makes 0 sense.

My recomendations:
1) Apply to as many schools as you are able to, assuming you would be willing to attend them if accepted.

2)Have some diversity in the schools just to cover your bases.
