  • Volunteer in the ED (~200 hours)
  • Shadowed a few physicians

  • Member of a couple other philanthropic and general interest orgs
I have a few strong letters coming from my PI and org advisors, though the letters coming from profs will be more standard. I'm going to try to get a letter from one of the physicians I've shadowed. PS isn't done yet but one of my focuses will be on my experience and passion for teaching, and how that relates to the practice of medicine.

*Would it be beneficial to get a letter from a professor I've TA'd for, though I haven't taken one of his courses?
**(edit)A note about the GPA: My 2nd year GPA was great - 3.8+. Last year's was ~3.2, however. I'm still not certain what happened last year, though I have an idea (pretty personal)... not exactly sure if I want to talk about that at all yet. This year things are much better though.

Thanks for judging me 😛

I guess a major question is chances within the state.

Also, my apologies to aggie404, I kinda stole your thread title.

Among others who applied with your stats in the last three years, 83.7% received an admission, according to AMCAS accumulated data. You have lots to list under teaching/mentoring. You have plenty of research and some leadership. Your clinical experience is above average, and you have some shadowing. Your film credit and published article can be listed under "Publications." It looks like you've done additional community service. I like your planned theme for your PS.

You might go ahead and get the letter from the prof you TA'd for, in case one of your schools allows additional letters it would qualify for, like Employer.

Your overall GPA is good enough that I doubt you'll be asked to explain the year you did more poorly. But practice an explanation you're comfortable with, just in case you are asked.

I think you'll be fine getting in somewhere, provided you apply early and broadly, have good letters, and a compelling Personal Statement. Don't hang you hat on it being in California though.
