Hi- I'm in a combined B.A.-M.D. program and I'm considering applying out. However, I'm not sure if my stats are worth it and whether I have a reasonably good chance of succeeding. I will have to forfeit my current seat if I apply out, so I'm unsure if it will be worth it.

Double Major: History + Biology
overall GPA: 3.97
science GPA: 3.96
MCATs: 36 R

I have some volunteering, some research, and clinical experience.

I would really appreciate it if I could get some advice on this.

Personally, I would think pretty hard before I did that. What goals are going to be better met by not going to the school you are guaranteed at ? If the answer is something like "I'm sick of the place I'm living in and the school kinda bothers me", then I would probably just try to find something to do in that place that made me like it better. If the answer is "I really want this one particular specialty/type of research that just isn't done at this school" then that might make more sense.

There are other questions too, Does it make financial sense to spend money on apps, when you have a place you could just go? Do you feel like dealing with the stress of taking away a sure thing?

But your numbers look good, I think most people here would kill for those numbers. So on a strictly 'can I do it' basis, the answer is definitely yes.
